    3. Carol & Temple-List, I was just reading yesterday a computer magazine that talked about the history of the internet. Netscape Navigator 2.0 was the first browser to have java-capability. That browser was out in 1996. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.0 which came out in 1996 was java capable. And the newest browser versions of Navigator 4.0 & Explorer 4.0 are still java capable. So I really don't understand why anyone has had any trouble with my original weekly Java chat. I can only guess it was because maybe they had AOL browsers which are not java capable. I think I read somewhere that AOL browsers are not java capable, and I guess the only why to make them java capable is to do a special download for it from them like you recently did. I would have thought that AOL would be similiar to Navigator & Explorer, where java capability is a standard feature in their browser, but I guess that's not the case. Anyway, those with AOL browsers means they can take part in the AOL chat, which is great. The whole point in me creating the Temple chat at my site was so non-AOL members would have somewhere to engage in a Temple chat. So any non-AOL member had that oppurtunity with my Parachat java Temple chat on Fridays. And they still have that oppurtunity with my Parachat java Temple chat on the 10th of every month. So they can't complain about not being non-AOL members any more! And now with my non-java Temple chat on the Geocities Heartland neighborhood chat page, which I'll create every month on the 20th at 8 PM Eastern, now even the AOL members whose browsers are not java-capable can come and chat with non-AOL Temple researchers. If me trying to have two chats turns out to be too much I can always cancel one. Having my Parachat java chat allows all the non-AOL Temple researchers to chat with each other. You having the AOL Great Temple chat allows all the AOL members to chat with each other. But the AOL members can't come to chat with the non-AOL members in my Parachat java Temple chat without upgrading their AOL browsers. That's why I decided to try the Geocities chat, which allows one to chat either by java or html. This is the only way for the AOL members who don't have a java capable browser on their computer to come chat with the non-AOL Temple resaearchers. But in order to chat in the Geocities chat rooms, everyone who wants to chat there must be a Geocities member, so if everyone signs up we could all just meet there and I could later cancel my Parachat java Temple chat if everyone does that. Will see how it goes. Geocities membership is free, so everyone might as well sign up. Also, AOL members can always upgrade their browser. There's lots of sights on the internet with java, its something everyone should have. Also, I have both Navigator and Explorer on my computer, and I think its a good idea that everyone has more than one browser on their computer. Pages on the internet look different in the different browsers, and you miss a lot when you come to a site designed for just one browser and not the other. So I would encourage everyone to have two browsers on their computers. If anyone reading this knows of a html powered chat I could place on my page to replace the java chat for free then please tell me about it, so then everyone could just come to my page and chat and not have to worry about java or geocities membership or anything. Also I think the fact that I've changed the meeting away from every Friday will probably help the most. That seemed to be what the most complaints were about, not that they had trouble getting there because of java but because it was on a Friday night and they wanted to do other things than chat on a Friday night. And once a week seemed to be too much chatting than they really wanted to engage in, so now that its once a month for each (in my case, on the 10th in Parachat java & on the 20th in Geocities java or html) I've cut down the number of meetings from 4 times a week to twice a week which should create a larger turn out for the less frequent meetings. If anyone has anymore ideas how we AOL & non-AOL members can get together to chat let me know. You can even post your ideas to the list. I would like very much to get both groups of Temple researchers into the same or an alternate chat with none or the least amount of trouble for anyone. If I lived in an AOL local calling service area I would certainly be an AOL member so I could take part in your AOL Temple chats. I hope together with all of us looking we can find somewhere on the internet an html operated free chat with no membership required we can all show up at to chat. William J.
