Terry (and everyone else - here's soem controversy for us all): Saw your postings to Joanne May. This is really exciting, since you may have a line that I have been unable to trace. I have a web page (below) that I try to document all the TEMPLE lines in America, and hopefully find the connections. This is a service to all TEMPLE and related lines - but it's only as good as the data I find or receive. Right now - we have nearly 150 lines - but intuitively, we know that many of these are related. We just haven't found the connection. Until now, at least. Your Reverend Ichabod Temple is one of our loose ends. My data says he was born in England, and emigrated to ME. Before Ichabod, I had no information. Your data indicates two things I have not been able to prove before - and would really appreciate understanding your sources. Hold on to your whatever, because this gets confusing. Let me explain. First - Ichabod's father as Richard (1724). I have Sarah Hambleton marrying Richard, son of Abraham of Concord (grandson of Abraham of Salem). But this Richard was b 1674, and had two other wives. This may be a confusion in your data (there were more Richards in Abraham of Salem's line than you want to know. And most of them were cousins living contemporaneously). You show the correct descent down to Richard # 3. It's there that I get lost, and would appreciate your clarification. We both show a son, Joseph from Richard 3. We agree on birth date. But we go awry with Abigail Stearns as wife. I can absolutely confirm Abigail Stears married a Joseph TEMPLE. So far so good. But all my data is very conflicting. One thing I am relatively certain of - the LDS Ancestral File incorrectly puts her together with another Joseph. I am pretty sure (based on timing) that she married Joseph TEMPLE, b. 28 Aug 1694, but he was son of Abraham & Deborah HADLOCKE TEMPLE, son of Richard (but your Richard # 2). This Abigail Stearns was b 8 Feb 1699 in Lexington, MA. So far so good. But this Joseph did not have a second wife. The Joseph TEMPLE who married Mary LAUGHTON was Joseph, b 28 Aug 1709 (!!!) and was son of Richard and Mary BARKER TEMPLE, son of Abraham and Deborah HADLOCKE TEMPLE. So it appears we have several wives of different Josephs - not an uncommon problem, by the way. Now - back to Joseph 4, b 1694. I have NO lineage from him - that's why your data is so exciting. I am sure you have the right Joseph to then have a Richard - that's how the Richards generally ran - alternating generations. Joseph 4's father was your Richard 3, same dates, so I think that's really solid. I have such conflicting data on Abigail, however, that your data may in fact be correct. How did you verify Abigail and Joseph? Now - perhaps I can help you with a conjecture. I believe the Richard # 5 did not marry Sarah Hambleton. Albert TEMPLE and Danny SMITH, in their Rise of the TEMPLEs, say she married Richard b 6 Oct 1674, son of Abraham and Deborah. HOWEVER - the Richard TEMPLE I show with the birth data of 7 Mar 1724 has no descent known. Here's what may have happened, and the possible source of the error. If Sarah Hambleton married Dr. Richard TEMPLE, b 1674 - he would have been 72 at the time (though he lived to be 82, so it's possible he did marry her). I think that Albert and Danny may have put three wives for Dr. Richard TEMPLE (1674) when in fact there ought to be only TWO. That would free up Sarah HAMBLETON to marry Richard # 5 at his age of 23, and that fits. Okay - enough conjecture - what do the sources say? I've laid out the convolutions that occur in the data available to me - but most of my data is secondary stuff like Albert and Danny's or Levi's books. If your data is correct - you have a great contribution to make to the conventional wisdom. So - let us know - I surely am looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance.
