Brothers William Temple bp 1686 Atworth parish, Wiltshire, England m Hannah Taylor and Thomas Temple bp or b 1700 Atworth parish, m Mary Jefferis. They are said to have come to PA c1714 and the Wiltshire database of immigrants appears to support the time frame (if this is our Thomas; no William shown?): Names Thomas Temple Ages Occupations Cooper What town or village they emigrated from Malmesbury Date of emigration 21st March 1713 What ship they sailed on. What town and country was their final destination America Their stepmother is said to have sent them to America while their father was away on business in Ireland, so that her children would inherit. They had one other sister (who lived) by the name of Susanna b 1683, who by all appearances remained in England. So, it doesnt appear that the Elizabeth Temple (m Stephen Cole) of Chester could be a sister. If you also take into consideration that she died 1733, she was probably of an older generation than the two brothers. Which makes me wonder if the boys werent sent to Chester because of relatives in the area? It certainly would make the stepmother not so cruel in my eyes (but far from nice). The only other Temples that I know of which also came to US from Wiltshire, was Joseph Temple of VA. Joseph did come to America earlier than the two brothers. William you know a lot more about Josephs line than we do... is there a possibly connection to this Elizabeth? There is still so much to learn about the Wiltshire Temples. Thomas Temple of Heytesbury, Wiltshire, England left a will 1594 in which he mentions wife Agnes and ten children - not named. Just from this alone there could be a lot of Temples running around Wiltshire in the 1600s. So, Elizabeth may remain another mystery in the Temple families - at least for now.
