    1. Re: Abigail TEMPLE, MA c1749
    2. Hi Ozzie, I'm a descendant of the Seth Temple at whose house in Heath the Sarah who supposedly married Stephen Rolph supposedly died. I don't know where Levi Temple got that info--there is no cemetery record for her there nor do I know where she might be buried. Nor am I convinced that that Sarah was a daughter of Richard's son Benjamin, father of Seth, who married only the unknown Hannah, not Abigail Waite. The Middlesex Court records clearly show that Levi Temple confused Benjamin b circa 1708 with his uncle Benjamin b 1690, son of Abraham and brother of Richard. That Benjamin (b 1690) was the one who married Abigail Waite, and Levi seems right about most of the children ascribed to him, but I note that Sarah's birth date (April 26 1730) is exactly the same as that of Abraham, the son of Benjamin (1690). Coincidence or could they actually be twins? I also believe that the Thomas (b Nov 21 1732) whom Levi gave to Benjamin (1708) was also a son of his uncle Benjamin--Levi only guessed at a birth date there and I think places that Thomas too early. His daughter Abigail (b May 8 1722) seems too young to be either of the Abigails you are looking for or to have the wrong birth date. But I would like to know where your info comes from--the Concord records? And the Abigail daughter of Joseph b Dec 1 1718 seems also too young to have married Isaac Ramsdell in 1769 as Levi suggests with a question mark. Perhaps it was a widow Abigail Temple?? Levi Temple certainly did a tremendous job in his book, but in a few places he did seem to jump to conclusions without looking at the probate records, which may not have been available to him. In fact, for Sandy in Wisconsin, I am quite sure that he mixed up two Josephs, and that the Joseph born May 6 1688, son of Abraham and Deborah Hadlock, was not the Joseph who married Abigail Stearns. The 1688 Joseph either died young or doesn't show up later, but the Joseph who married Abigail Stearns I believe was actually the son of Richard and Sarah Parlin b Aug 28 1694. I did this research many years ago in the Middlesex Co Courthouse in Cambridge MA and did not photocopy records as I should have--they were not in my direct line, but I did enter these notes into my photocopy of the Levi Temple book and was quite convinced of their accuracy at the time! Hope I've not confused things totally, but I think the Court records would bear me out. Helga Andrews
