By pushing 90# you are giving the individual that called you access to your telephone line and allowing them to place a long distance telephone call, with the charge appearing on your telephone bill. 3. To All: Perhaps one of you can help resolve some confusion regarding Liston TEMPLE. I have three references - apparently at least two of them are to a father-son pair. If I can piece these folks together, it would be a great help. This is what I have at present: Individual Summary - 1 Mar 1998 ---------------------------------------- Name: Liston TEMPLE Sex: Male Father: Colonel Joseph TEMPLE (3 Feb 1666-abt 1740) Mother: Anne ARNOLD (1672-) Individual Facts Birth abt 1698 in "Presque Isle," King William, VA Death abt 1750 (age 52) Marriages/Children 1. Agnes ELLIOTT Marriage Children Captain Liston TEMPLE (-13 Oct 1804) Notes General3,4: Captain of King County Militia in the Revolution. Some data supplied by Gwen DuVall, a descendant. She cites a letter written by Mrs. Polly Williamson (daughter of Col. Benjamin Temple) to Dr. William Gwathmey of King and Queen County in 1831. Also, it is not clear that Captain Liston TEMPLE is indeed the son of Liston TEMPLE. The relationship cited here is based on timing and opportunity, not on actual documentation. Sources 1. Albert R. In addition to these references, I have found a Liston TEMPLE married Harriet M. Robertson, 21 Mar 1815, in Davidson Co., TN. So - I have three Listons - anyone know how to sort out this mess? Any ideas are most welcome. Park -- L. Parker Temple Researching the branches of the TEMPLE family See my home page at http://www.erols.com/lptemple/house.htm

    1. Stephen Temple 1731-1809
    2. I would like some help from anyone out there that can supply information on Stephen Temple 1731-1809, My 4th Great Grand Father. My questions are: 1. Levi D. Temple used the MA Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolution book to describe Stephen Temples participation in the Rev. war. His description bunches several entries into one. From careful study I think we are looking at, at least three different Stephen Temples. Of course two of the entries are of his son Stephen Jr. Does anyone have it broken down. 2. According to vital records of Westford MA, a Stephen Temple m. a Lois Barret in Westford on Oct. 16, 1780. Does anyone know who this Stephen is? 3. In 1790 a Stephen is listed in Londongrove Twp, Chester Co. PA. pg67. Who is he? Does anyone have a breakdown of his family size from that census. My library doesnt have 1790 PA. 4. Little is known about Stephens first wife Sarah (MY ancestor) except for her first name on some documents. My belief is that her name may have been Bates and her father Warren Bates. (this is a wild guess based on patterns of childrens names). Stephen Warren Bates Temple was used by his children and their children many times. After paternal father and maternal Grandfather. This pattern was used previously in the family line. Ralph Temple

    3. Hi Temple researchers # 18 on Parker's list of floaters is a descendant of John Temple (b. 1804) and Hannah Hollis. There is a letter from Eden Booth among the Chester Co., Papers of Cope and Furthey. LDS microfilm #0757068. This was a letter to a Lewis Cook in Philadelphia from Eden Booth of Colonial Poultry Farms in Pleasant Hill, Mo. dated May 1952. He had more info on the Temple family he was sending to Cook. Included is this info on John: "John Temple was the son of John Temple. John Temple (son) was married to Hannah HOLLIS on July 22, 1824. John Temple died Jan. 3, 1851. I don't know where he was born, where he married, or where he died. Hannah his wife, died Jan.25,1889 in Kansas City, Mo. I believed he died before she moved to Missouri. Their children were: Thomas b. 1-15-1826 Elizabeth b. 10-26-1827 She is buried in Olathe, Kansas Geo. Washington b. 6-27-1830 Jos. Lewis b.8-20-1832 James b. 10-28-1834 in Coatsville, Chester Co, Pa., died 4-17-1909 in Olathe, Kansas Mary Ann b. 11-1-1836 Maria Louisa b. 8-30-1839 died 10-28-1839 William Franklin b. 2-26-1843 my wife's father thinks he was born in Lancaster, Pa. William Franklin Temple was my wife's grand-father Josephine b. 2-25-1845 John Hollis b. 1-24-1847 died in Oct 1865 Norris b. 1-7-1849 died 10-10-1849" I do not have all the children of William Franklin Temple (Of Olathe until at least 1885), so I do no know for sure who was Lucy's father. Josephine married Joseph Jakeway and was in Champaign Co., Ill at least until 1885. George W. was also in Champaign Co., Ill. Joseph Lewis moved to Washington State before 1900, and I think the rest of them were around Kansas City areas of Missouri and Kansas. I am still looking for the parents of John b. 1804 in Pennsylvania...I am sure that he didn't just hatch. : ) Joyce Hagerty

Keep up the good work! Here's my mystery Temple: Edward Temple born ca 1797 or 1798 in Maryland. He lived in Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. He married Margaret Jane Gibson on 10 Dec, 1818 in Ohio County, Virginia (now West VA). They moved to Guernsey County, Ohio and their children were: Matilda Morrison (daughter of Margaret Jane Gibson and her first husband, William Morrison) born 11 Nov. 1815 Thomas Temple born 1820 Jane Temple born ca 1820 or 1821 George Temple born ca 1823 or 1824 Ruth Temple born 18 June 1826 William Temple born 29 Feb 1828 Sarah Ann Temple born 7 Apr 1833 Elizabeth Temple born 10 March 1836 John H. 1. Temple-Templer Connection
    2. Greetings to all. My family traces its lineage to one James TEMPLER and his wife, Martha HUFF. They lived in what is now Loudoun County, Virginia from abt 1755 until their deaths abt 1846. Not much is known about them. They were married in Shelbourne Parish, Loudoun County, Virginia on 31 August 1775. They had 8 children we believe. Names were William (b. 29 dec 1775), John J. (b. abt 1777), Jonathon (b. abt 1778), James (b. abt 1779), Esther (b. abt 1780), Martha (b. abt 1781), Stacey (b. abt 1782), and Thomas (b. abt 1787). To our knowledge, James and Martha never left Virginia although we have not yet located their burial sites. There is an old family story (you have heard that before haven't you!) that James added the "R" to his name and that his birth name was actually TEMPLE. We have located a file on World Family Tree, Volume 2, Pedigree #2978, that contains a TEMPLE family with a son, James, who has the above dates of birth information. This file contains no further information on James. Because of this old family story and the similarity in birth information we would like to make contact with the submitters of this information but have been unable to do so at this time. Anyone knowing the submitters of the above referenced file are asked to contact me to see if we can compare notes and tie these to family files together. James and Martha TEMPLER have spawned a rather large family tree of roughly 1000 known descendants at this time and we are stilling locating others. I have much to share with the right party. Thanks for you kind attention. Charles E. Templer chartemp@aol.com Refer to my family page on familytreemaker.com for further information.

    2. It seems that Joanna Shepey has become a popular subject on this Temple rootsweb site. I love it. I have been studying this since Park sent me part of his data base which included her as being wife of Richard a year or two ago. I really like what Park is doing and have looked at his home page several times I knew from the first time I communicated with him that he was very concerned about proper documentation. I have patterened myself after him. However Park, I still have not found a source that states that Richard Temple, b. abt. 1623 in Eng., the one whose house still stands in Concord MA, my 8th greatgrandfather, had a wife by the name of Joanna Shepey. I have not however seen the Boston Transcript newspaper 29 Jan 1923. This is what is so great about the computer and the internet. Several people working together to grasp every bit of information possible to get things right. Levi D. Temple never had this tremendous tool. He made a few mistakes but with what he had he did a fantastic job. His book is a great starting point for us Temples. I never realized there were so many Temples doing what I love to do. Lets all keep it up. Ralph Temple

    3. Dorothy and TEMPLE Cousins: Dorothy's data must have a strong element of truth in it, given the recent nature of so much of the data. The data going back to Major TEMPLE is interesting. Interesting - but it raises more questions than it answers. My data does not resolve the William G or Robert Elias - in fact, the dates I have conflict with the Robert, son of John and Elizabeth Marshall. One possible explanation - Elizabeth Marshall married John's son, John. That would amke the dates for a Robert in 1855 much more plausible. However, I have seen nothing in the documentation to idicate this sort of confusion. Anyone have thoughts on this? Below, you will find an individual summary on John TEMPLE, showing my data for his linkage to Elizabeth Marshall. My source is a book of some relatively frequent error - Levi Daniel's Some Temple Pedigrees. I have found, more than once, his confusion of generations, or skipping a generation. Following the individual summary, I have a longer descent from John Temple - showing that I can document no where near 11 children for him TOTAL, with both wives. Joseph Temple is shown in a new book "Tennesseans before 1800 Washington County" by Marjorie Fischer - Dewey # 976.897 Joseph Temple Deed Bk E-H-I page 211 The date of this would be 1791-1802 and the State TN microfilm # is 197. This is a book of names that show you where the records can be found - great book. Joseph Temple in TN pre 1800 is a new one on me?

    3. To all: Interesting discussions so far on Joanna, wife of Richard. I have seen three variations, listed in the subject of this message. Since I have no original source material on it - I guess Bob is taking the conservative approach - in that we ahve not really proved her last name. The sources (which have credibility) used in my home page for Joanna were: Concord Births, Marriages and Deaths - the Vital Records of Concord MA Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700 p. 732 - he does not, however, give her last name Death date from Boston Transcript, Number 9997, 29 Jan 1923. And Levi's Some Temple Pedigrees Also found in Albert Temple and Danny Smith's book. The Great Migration may include her, but does not include her with a last name. No Shepey or Shipley shows up. Having said all this, there are enough leanings towards Joanna's last name as either Shepey or Shipley that I have included it int he home page. As Case Zwart warned me when I started my TEMPLE genealogy, though - be careful of using Levi as a source. Since then, I have not found any source to be perfect. I am inclined to leave Joanna's names assigned in the database, but will chenge in a heartbeat if we get good documentation that disproves it. Since this has been looked at for so long, and given the number of professionals who have tried, I feel pretty certain this one will remain unresolved. Thanks for the nice words on the homepage - I hope it is helping get research on all our lines furthered. Park -- L.
