    1. Anyone Know this Nancy TEMPLE
    2. L. Parker Temple
    3. To All: I found a Nancy TEMPLE, b. 5 Mar 1795, of Orange MA (should narrow it down, right?) who married Royal Ward, b. 25 Sep 1792, in Warwick (Orange) MA. Apparently they married 16 Mar 1818. For all that - I have no idea who Nancy's parents were. Anyone have a hint? Thanks, Park -- L. By coincidence, as I was researching at the DAR library, I ran across Mrs. Frakes as well. I will be going back there in a week or so - and will see if I can update information on her. I assume she was a member, so I should be able to narrow down the field a bit. I'll get back to you when I have something. Park -- L. 3. Ralph: I found Lucy as the daughter of Zebina - it's in the Vital Records of Boylston p. 44. I guess what this all means is that some of my secondary sources, cited in the original message, were confused. It looks to me like the Vital Records information pretty well substantiates the way I had it in the first place. Thanks for the help. Park -- L. The Vital Records information has more credibility than some of the researchers I have found, so I think that is the version that I will reflect in the web page. I will check to see why Lucy is included under Zebina and Lois - perhaps that will clarify things. If anyone else can contribute - please do - I am going into final production for the web page update. Thanks again Park -- L. 3. Hi all Because we have so many new researchers, I am reposting this... In 1957, Mrs. William Frakes of Effingham, Illinois submitted this to DAR magazine Looking for the parents of Thomas Temple, b. 22 April 1796 , Joseph Temple b. 7 July 1798, John Temple b. 26 Nov. 1804 married Hannah Hollis, Richard Temple, B. 12 Sep. 1807, and James Temple B. 27 September 1810. I have often wondered if Richard could be the Richard Temple who married Mary Hart. My ggggrandparents were John Temple and Hannah Hollis. I have much information on the Hollis side, but I can't find the parents of the above men. I have looked for Mrs. Frakes and her connection to the Temples, but with no results. I would appreciate any information. Joyce Hagerty

    3. According to Southborough MA births pg 76 Lucy Brigham is the daughter of Moses and Betsy (Elizabeth Stratton) Temple. She did marry Cyrus Pratt on May 19, 1831 according to Newton MA vital Records. Lucy Temple married Ralsa F. Johnson of Upton MA on Sep 21, 1828 according to Holden MA Vital records. There is also an entry in Upton MA vital records that they were int. on Aug 17, 1828. It would make sense to me that the Lucy that married Ralsa F. Johnson would be the daughter of of Zebina; I however do not show that Zebina and Lois Temple had a daughter named Lucy. The only children I show belonging to Zebina and Lois are: Nancy b. 1824 d. Holden, Sarah Ann b. 1816 d. Holden, and Samuel b. Feb 9, 1809 d.Holden. Does anyone have a source for documentation. According to the 1850 census of Holden MA, Lois was b. 1885 or 1886. So Lucy's birth date of 1807 would be right to fit Lois' b. and m. dates. Good Luck. Ralph Temple

    3. Ralph and Everyone Else: It looks to me like Ralph's data on Abraham Temple is a new and independent, and very old, line. I was unable to correlate it with any of my data. The naming conventions are not all that unusual, and the names were relatively common at the time, hence an appearnace of some possible relationship to Abraham of Salem. I think that is superficial, howver, if the underlying documentation for the line is solid. Anyone see anything else in this? I'd like to include it as one of the lines on my home page if we can't establish a direct connection to other lines. Park -- L. 1. Puzzle about Lucy Brigham TEMPLE
    2. L. Parker Temple
    3. To all: I have a problem in the data I have researched. I have two sources, both seemingly authoritative, that give the spouse of Lucy Brigham TEMPLE [1804-1896] as Cyrus PRATT [dates unknown] (Rise of the Temples, #239, p. 43 and p. 39). The second source has Ralsa Fisk JOHNSON [1805-?] marrying Lucy Brigham TEMPLE. (Forefathers and Descendants of Willard and Genevieve Wilson Bartlett, p. 170). Not that one woman can't have two husbands (hopefully at different times), but my information from another source has the Lucy TEMPLE [1807-?] who married Ralsa JOHNSON being the daughter of Zebina and Lois (Rowe) TEMPLE. This is from The Chapin Genealogy, p. 1871, and the Vital Records of Holden MA, p. 182. These latter sources indicate that Lucy TEMPLE who married Ralsa was NOT Lucy Brigham TEMPLE, since they do not indicate a middle name or initial. They give Lucy's parents as Moses and Elizabeth (Stratton) TEMPLE. Confused yet? I certainly am. I am pretty sure I have two different Lucys. But who married whom? and what source do I believe? HELP! 1. Margaret Temple Gifford - Witch?
    2. L. Parker Temple
    3. To All: I got a question from Loretta Eaton over a comment in Levi Temple's book: "In 1669, Dr. Philip [Case] made complaint, for witchcraft, against Margaret Temple Gifford, wife of John Gifford of Lynn." The question was - how did the case turn out? I found the following today, and we can all breate a sigh of relief - we aren't related to any witches. The Devil's Dominion - Magic and Religion in Early New England. Richard Godbeer, Cambridge Univ Press, 1992. P. 236. His appendix A. lists all those accused, their town and the verdict. Only one entry appears for Lynn MA, that being Ann Burt (a famous case, by the way), who was apparently acquitted. No other entries for Lynn would indicate she was not tried. The Devil in the Shape of a Woman - Witchcraft in Colonial New England by Carol F. Karlson, W.W. Norton & Co, NY, 1987. p. 80 "Without a husband to act on behalf of the accused, wealth alone rarely provided women with protection against prosecution. Boston's Ann Hibbens, New Haven's Elizabeth Godman, and Wethersfield's Katherine Harrison, all women alone, were tried as witches despite sizeable estates. In contrast, the accusations against women like Hannah Griswold of Saybrook Connecticutt, Elizabeth Blackleach of Hartford, and Margaret Gifford of Salem, all wives of prosperous men when they were accused, were simply not taken seriously by the courts." p. 143. "Physician Phillip Read of Lynn was connected with at least two separate episodes, testifying in 1669 that Ann Burt caused an illness for which there was "noe Natural caus," and filing an unspecified complaint against Margaret Gifford in 1680." Citation is from Essex Court Records, 4:207 and 7:405. Park -- L. Parker Temple Researching the branches of the TEMPLE family See my home page at http://www.erols.com/lptemple/house.htm

    3. For those who are a descendant of Abraham of Salem I would like to share something with all of you that to me has a lot of potential. Last December I received mail from a gentleman by the name of Douglas Larson. Some time ago he did some research on an Abraham Temple from Sidestrand Parish, Norfolk England. Notice the dates and sons names. I have not been in contact with Doug since he went to AZ for the winter months. Maybe some of you have seen this. Any comments?? Descendants of Abraham Temple Generation No. 1 1. ABRAHAM1 TEMPLE. He married JOANE WORSTED Apr 28, 1617 in Sidestrand Parish, Norfolk Co England1. Notes for ABRAHAM TEMPLE: If Abraham the husband of Joane is the Abraham of Salem, Mass he and his son Richard must have went to America and left the rest of the family in England. There was an Abraham Temple buried 26 Mar 1666, but that could have been Abraham the son of Abraham and Joane or Abraham the husband of Joane. The book 942.61/53 V26h only listed an Abraham Temple period. Children of ABRAHAM TEMPLE and JOANE WORSTED are: i. ANNE2 TEMPLE, b. Jun 25, 1620, Sidestrand Parish, Norfolk Co England2. ii. 3. The Ancestry world tree has a large section of Temple submittions: http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search.asp There are over 300; I found it easier to include a birth/death place on the advanced search. For those of you researching Abraham there were a lot of those. Thanks Pam, for calling this to my attention. Joanne
