Joanna, I think that would be great to show a Temple Family each month. I am really excited about this. I thought my Temple line was dead but recently, found new friends, relatives and new hope. Sincerely, Nancy Spires
I am researching the family of Conrad TEMPLE. He was born 1 Apr 1808 in Hagerstown, MD and died 1 Mar 1862 in Washington County, IA. He married Margaret RITCHEY on 6 Aug 1829 (place unknown). If anyone knows anything about his parents, siblings, or children, I would be happy to share what I know. Thanks Bill Hansen Ottumwa, IA
At Joanne's request, I am posting below my dead end on my Temple line. My dead end is: Abraham Temple, b. abt 1597, in Stowe?, England. Married 4 Dec. 1620 in England, died after 1639 in Salem, MA If anyone can help with this let me know. Joanne, I believe the general thinking that all of the English Temples come from a common ancestry is, logically at least, inaccurate. It's my understanding that many Temples were so named after being orphaned and possibly left on the local church doorstep. If you look at the source of many English names they stem from an occupation or an area(of course, this could be said of most surname origins). The fact that the prominent English line is so well documented by Levi Temple, we rush to assume that this is the solution for all of us. Just another theory. I like your idea about going back to step 1 and listing our oldest ancestor/dead end. I'll send a separate note. Thanks for helping! Linda
I wrote a couple of weeks ago about William Albert Temple and a George Tillman Temple from Saluda South Carolina. I saved the message and my computer went down and I lost who I was emailing. Please if you see this and you know these Temples please email me back. Sincerely, Nancy Spires
Glad we are going back to the AOL chat room. I'll try to be there. Am not interested in pursuing Delphi again. Pretty definitively, there were no TEMPLEs on the Mayflower - but there have undoubtedly been some relations by marriage. Abraham of Salem was the first TEMPLE in this country with a reasonable amount of documentation. However, a Dorothy TEMPLE (b. abt 1615) worked as a servant of one Stephen Hopkins. Hopkins had been one of the members of the Mayflower party in 1620. The story on Dorothy may be confused with our having a Mayflower person - since it seems that Hopkins found that she was pregnant in 1638 during her last two years of indenture. Hopkins, however, was not the father. The father of her child was probably Arthur Peach, who had been executed for murder and highway robbery. Apparently nothing more is known of Dorothy or her child. That's about all I can come up with for a TEMPLE connection to the Mayflower. Anyone else know of soemthing? Dear Joanne, I saw your web site when I was looking for information about my own family's prior property. My fathers family name was "Cowing" and they too came over on the Mayflower. I think that your web site is just great. It takes alot of work to look up this information. My father was John D. Cowing and he lived at RD#1, Lake Road, Lot# 57, Cayuga, New York. The legal description is Town of Aurelius, County of Cayuga, N.Y. Great Lot 57. He sold the property to a Walter J. Pokrzywa and Stella W. Pokrzywa in 1984. I was wondering if you can tell me if they in fact are still in the area. I would like to contact them and there is no phone listing. Since this was 13 years ago who knows if they are still around. So I just thought since your family has been in the area for so long someone may know of them and possibly who the Cowings are. Thank you for any help. Sincerely, Candace Jones
Hello all: I have run across a reference to Osburn TEMPLE very early in North Carolina. Apparently, he had some claim with the military during the Revolution in NC. Has anyone heard of Osburn? Any other information on him or his family? Thanks for any help. Park _____________________________________ L. Park, Please forward the following to Barry. Descendants of Samuel Kimball Temple Generation No. 1 1. Samuel Kimball11 Temple (Benjamin10, Solomon9, Benjamin8, Richard7, Abraham6, Richard5, Abraham4, Peter3, John2, Peter1) was born Dec 06, 1822 in Heath MA1, and died in Cheyenne WY?. He married Ann M. Boothaker. More About Samuel Kimball Temple: Residence : Marietta OH census: 1850, Marietta 2nd Ward, Washington Co. OH occupation: Broom maker Children of Samuel Temple and Ann Boothaker are: 2 i. Henry M.12 Temple, born 1847 in OH2. 3 ii. daughter Temple, born Abt. 1850. Endnotes 1. Heath MA Vital records F74.H57 H6 2. 1850 OH census. Samuels second child was not listed in the 1850 census so was apparently born later. He does not appear in Marietta 2nd Ward, Washington Co. OH in the 1860 census but his brother Luther does and so does a Ruth Temple. Samuel did have a second wife. Maybe Ruth? From the census information we can deduct that Samuel left OH sometime between 1850 and 1860. Hope this helps somewhat. Ralph Temple
