    1. Re: Abigail TEMPLE, MA c1749
    2. Hi Ozzie, I'm a descendant of the Seth Temple at whose house in Heath the Sarah who supposedly married Stephen Rolph supposedly died. I don't know where Levi Temple got that info--there is no cemetery record for her there nor do I know where she might be buried. Nor am I convinced that that Sarah was a daughter of Richard's son Benjamin, father of Seth, who married only the unknown Hannah, not Abigail Waite. The Middlesex Court records clearly show that Levi Temple confused Benjamin b circa 1708 with his uncle Benjamin b 1690, son of Abraham and brother of Richard. That Benjamin (b 1690) was the one who married Abigail Waite, and Levi seems right about most of the children ascribed to him, but I note that Sarah's birth date (April 26 1730) is exactly the same as that of Abraham, the son of Benjamin (1690). Coincidence or could they actually be twins? I also believe that the Thomas (b Nov 21 1732) whom Levi gave to Benjamin (1708) was also a son of his uncle Benjamin--Levi only guessed at a birth date there and I think places that Thomas too early. His daughter Abigail (b May 8 1722) seems too young to be either of the Abigails you are looking for or to have the wrong birth date. But I would like to know where your info comes from--the Concord records? And the Abigail daughter of Joseph b Dec 1 1718 seems also too young to have married Isaac Ramsdell in 1769 as Levi suggests with a question mark. Perhaps it was a widow Abigail Temple?? Levi Temple certainly did a tremendous job in his book, but in a few places he did seem to jump to conclusions without looking at the probate records, which may not have been available to him. In fact, for Sandy in Wisconsin, I am quite sure that he mixed up two Josephs, and that the Joseph born May 6 1688, son of Abraham and Deborah Hadlock, was not the Joseph who married Abigail Stearns. The 1688 Joseph either died young or doesn't show up later, but the Joseph who married Abigail Stearns I believe was actually the son of Richard and Sarah Parlin b Aug 28 1694. I did this research many years ago in the Middlesex Co Courthouse in Cambridge MA and did not photocopy records as I should have--they were not in my direct line, but I did enter these notes into my photocopy of the Levi Temple book and was quite convinced of their accuracy at the time! Hope I've not confused things totally, but I think the Court records would bear me out. Helga Andrews

    2. lkwade
    3. Bob, Thanks for the lineage information. You had Sarah Wright listed as Thomas Temple's second wife and Jane Britton listed as his first. The reverse is true. Sarah Wright Temple was Thomas' first wife, Jane Britton Temple, his second. Jane Britton is my gggrandmother. Thomas', who died in Ohio in 1845 had a son, Joseph, b. Feb. 23, 1801 in PA. who took over the family farm, when Thomas died. I guess I have to wait until we move on to PA to see if anyone has a Joseph Temple born on that date. Maybe he wasn't a Temple at all, and just "adopted" on Thomas way through PA. Linda Wade K.L.

    1. Abraham of Salem
    2. Ralph Temple
    3. Hi all, Being a descendant of Abraham of Salem I am enjoying and have read with interest all that has been presented so far this month about our “Temple of the Month”. I will post my family tree and some of my research in a couple of days but for now I have some questions that some of you researchers may be able to help me with. I have noticed that John Clifford Temple and Tobias Temple were included as brothers of Robert and Richard who were sons of Abraham. Albert R. Temple and Danny D. Smith indicate that “Tobias a supposed son is now known to have been a nephew or a second cousin”. It there some further evidence out there that places him as a brother? I have seen in various places that John Clifford Temple may have been a brother. Does anyone have a source or a story that places him here? My third question is about Abraham’s wives. I have not seen any sources that show Margaret as being the mother of Robert but several people are showing her on their family trees. Both “Some Temple Pedigrees” and “The Rise of the Temples” simply mention both wives. Do we have other sources that I am missing out on? Thank you for any help that someone can provide. I am thoroughly enjoying this rootsweb site and hope it continues to be as active as it has been. Ralph Temple

    2. Linda- Here is a comparison between your line and mine: Abraham-b. 1597 Abraham-b. 1597 Richard-b. 1623 Richard-b. 1623 Abraham-b. 4 Jun 1652 Abraham-b. 4 Jun1652 Benjamin-b. 27 Jul 1690 Isaac- b. 25 Nov 1678 Peter- b. 10 Jan 1738/39 Abraham- b. 19 Mar 1708/09 Thomas- b. 9 Sep 1770 Joseph- b. 3.Aug 1732 The sources I have for your Thomas' birthdate are the Vital Records of Concord, Mass, and also Levi Temple's book "Some Temple Pedigrees" published in 1900. I notice our dates disagree on that. But I'm sure it's the same one because my records show the same marriages for Thomas. I have more detail on these people if you need it. I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Bob Temple in Minnesota

Aug. 28, 1694, Concord, Middlesex, Co., MA.) Then in Maine, I have Richard Tenple, b. March 7, 1724/25 in MA who died in Bowdoinham ME before Sept. 1783, and his offspring: Ebenzer Temple, b. bef 1751; Lois Temple b. bef 1751; and Ichabod Temple, b. 1762, Bowdoin, ME. I think (don't know for sure on all of these) that Ichabod Temple's children were also born in Maine: James Temple, Marcia Temple, Jacobs Temple, Robert Temple b. May 23, 1781, ME, William Temple, Henry Temple b. abt 1795, ME; Mary Ann Temple, b. abt 1800; Elizabeth Temple, b. abt 1802; Nathaniel Temple, b. Temple b. 10/5/1844 Bowdoinham, ME; died 10/22/1906 Stephenson, MI. Married Mary Young 7/4/1866. John Temple was a few weeks shy of age 43 when he died. I do not know what he died of and would appreciate it if anyone can help me here. His youngest son, Charles was born several months after his death. A son, John died in 1852 in Maine. The rest of the family, Clarissa and all her children came to Wisconsin in the mid 1850's as near as I can tell. I'm not sure why, but land was probably the reason and several of her sons, as well as son-in-law, Mellen Smith, are shown as having land transactions in Oconto Co., from 1856 on. They settled in prime Wisconsin Timber land and farm land at the time. I will list descendants of these children in another list. Sandy Perdue

    3. I have a natural prejudice here - I have a lot of family that were in Wisconsin, both PARKER and TEMPLE folks. I'd like to work that any time. Park _____________________________________ L.
