Surnames: Teal, Teel Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wYRBAIB/325.1 Message Board Post: Sarah, Since I have a George (Washington) TEAL in my line, I read the Texas State Handbook article, and checked Ancestry.Com (1850 Census) to see if there might be a connection, but there doesn't appear to be one. However, I came up with a question. The article states that George Washington Teel was born in 1784 and died in 1856. They should know. The Ancestry site lists George as 31 (b. ca 1818 in MD). The actual census image reflects 57 y/o (b. ca 1793 in MD). Is this a "different" George Teel (i.e., cousin, brother)? It's probably an error on the part of the Census taker, but having TEALs in my line from MD > NC > GA > AR, I'm curious. Also, a caveat for researchers to check actual census records and not rely on "indexes." Like Jane, let me know if I can help with the Cemetery restoration. Mike in NC
