Dear List Members, Many of you may already know about the "Historical Maps of the United States" site located at http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/histus.html But I just found it and it is wonderful. I have spent the last few hours going through some of the maps and it helped me so much to understand some of the strange migration patterns of my ancestors. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, Remember as you think about posting a message to the list regarding Memorial Day, that some of our members are not from the United States. We have members from England, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Ireland and Australia, just to name a few. Please keep this in mind as you send your messages regarding honoring those of our ancestors who fought in wars, served in the military and gave their lives for our beliefs and for the freedoms we hold dear. Our members from other countries also have ancestors who fought, and gave their lives for the beliefs and for the freedoms of their country. We in the genealogical community need to continue to remember that we are a world wide family which is formed from those of many nations, cultures, beliefs and history. This Country was built by those who migrated here from lands around the world. Their history is a part of us as our history is a part of them. I ask you to remember all those who have given their lives in military service world wide this weekend and please show the respect due to each of our members, no matter where they are from or what country they or their ancestors fought for. I appreciate each of you. Have a save weekend. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
It seems as if the latest virus problem has calmed down, but it would only take one or two of you opening an attachment with a virus to set it off again. It is not over, but it has calmed down. Just this morning I received another on - and did as I suggest you do DELETED IT. Please remember: DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT unless you know 100% what it is and who is from and have run a virus scan on it. I don't care how inviting the subject line is, "homepage", "Read this", "The Docs you ask for", etc. . Also please remember that this virus is not being spread via Rootsweb, but is being spread via attachments that are being sent out by rootsweb members. If you want additional information on what a virus is go to http://ca.com/virusinfo/faq.htm it is an informative site. If you don't have a good Virus Scan, I use Norton Anti virus, you need to get one that you trust and fast. If you are not sure what kind to get, you might want to join the virus discussion list to get additional information on the different programs. VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Again, I appreciate your support as we have gone through the last month or so fighting this problem. I also appreciated your willingness to do all that is necessary to help me fight the problem. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Guess What Everybody? It looks like sender "hahahaha" is sending out the Snow White and the 7 dwarves virus again. I received it today. But I deleted it quickly and didn't open either of 2 attachments. I don't look at that x-rated stuff anyway. Praise God! DO NOT OPEN IT! Just thought I would let you know. Jane Foley
Dear List Members - PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS on the personal e-mail you are receiving without being 100% plus sure who it is from and that it is not a virus and the only way you can be this sure is run a Virus Scan. The new one now is "Homepage" If you open the Homepage attachment, it sends a copy of itself to everyone in your address book. Homepage then randomly chooses an adult Web page to display on the system's default Internet browser." To learn more aobut this one go to http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2708116,00.html Homepage is just one of many. If you would like to know more about all of this you can join the Virus Discussion Mailing list by sending the word Subscribe to VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM We are going to be OK. These viruses cannot be sent through Rootweb so it is up to each of us to protect our fellow members. When I get a message from one of you and see that you have the virus, your e-mail address is unsubscribed from the mailing list until you get your computer system clean and then you are welcomed back with open arms. Just remember - do not open ANY attachements unless you are sure it is not a virus. If you are not sure - delete it. Those of us who are deeply nvolved in our genealogical research are so fearful that we are going to delete that one clue, which we have been waiting for, that many of us are opening these attachements - taking the chance - and because of this we are being hit hard by the virus. I appreciate your help with this. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members: If you are unsubscribed from the list, and it is not what you wanted, just re-subscribe yourself. If for some reason your address bounced several times, at no fault of your own, the system removes your address from the list. So if you see it happening to you all you have to do is re-subscribe yourself or send me a message and I will take care of it for you. Please be careful and DO NOT OPEN ANY MAIL WITH AN ATTACHMENT unless you are 100% sure you know what it is and even then run a virus scan. You cannot get a virus through the Rootsweb mailing list, but you can receive it from members of the list who's computer system has a virus. As soon as I know one of our members has a virus I unsubscribe them until they can clean their system. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns as to his list or suggestions for the benefit of all the members. Contact me personally please KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net For your enjoyment, this link was sent to me to share with you. It is another fun map - and shows when areas of the country were included in a US Census. http://www.segenealogy.com/sgo03.htm Thank you for your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Thought some of our new members would like to see this and some of us old members might like to see it again. :) To see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif Just a reminder. If you would like to know what lists you are on or would like help in unsubscribing go to Rootswebs Password Central, type in your e-mail address and then check "What list(s) am I on? (for subscribers)" Go to the bottom of the page and send. You will receive in a few moments a complete list of all Mailing list you are on and you can unsubscribe from it. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, I am getting a lot of personal messages asking me to help you unsubscribe as you leave on vacations, etc. I will always be glad to help you unsubscribe if you have a problem or even if you have forgotten how, but just as a reminder if you go to Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and type in your e-mail address and ask for a list of all Rootsweb lists you belong to, you will, within a few moments receive it via e-mail. You can unsubscribe from any or all of the rootsweb lists you are on from it. I thank you for your continued support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members: I just want to take a moment to remind you that you should never give information on living persons in your messages without their permission or the permission of their parents if they are children. The most important reason for this is the right to privacy. You also need to remember that anything you post goes into the archives of that list and stays there. It cannot be removed but it can be copied and added to any ones site out there in the world of the internet. This may not seem real important, but I promise it will become so when you are surfing the web one day and come across a site with your children's names, grandchildren's names, where they live and how old they are. I continue to thank you for your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Dear List Members, here it is, time for the First Quarterly Report for 2001. Can you believe how fast the time has passed? Please take note of my new e-mail address, kathleenburnett@earthlink.net and change your address books, the old efortress.com account will be closed by the end of the month. The TEAL Mailing List has 53 members, 39 on the Regular list and there are 14 members on the Digest List. If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/. Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller's Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Just a reminder so this list is better for each of us the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at kathleenburnett@earthlink.net There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as the first message from a members says Says "Happy Birthday John" and then John says "Thank you" and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday John". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. kathleenburnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. Subj: Sarah "Sally" Teal Date: 3/3/01 4:36:03 PM Eastern Standard Time From: MSwichkow To: TEAL-L@rootswb.com Hi, My Sarah "Sally" Teal was born about 1771 in NC, married John Pope of Anson County, NC and was in Talbot County, GA by 1827. Mother of sons, Jeptha and Emanuel, and Hezekiah. Her husband died after 1833 but before the 1840 census. Sarah was living with her son, Jeptha, in the 1840 and 1850 Talbot County, GA census. She had died before the 1860 census. Who were her parents? Was she related to other Teal families in Talbot County, GA? Any and all help appreciated. Marilyn
Hello List, I need help in finding ancestors of Bradberry Stevens Teal, born about 1837 probably in Talbot County, GA. Hugh Teele Singleton
My father, John Wesley Teal was born May 7, 1894, in Chesterfield County, Cheraw, SC. I was born to his second wife when he was in his 50s, so am not as old as it might seem. His parents were Christopher Wesley Teal and Clara (Clarinda Graves) Teal. Christopher's parents were Benjamin F. Teal and Eliza (Davis) Teal. Benjamin's parents were William Teal and Isabella (McRae) Teal. There is my brick wall. William was probably born in NC 1799-1800. In some court documents I have located, he spelled his name Teel, as well as Teal. After Benjamin was born, also probably in NC, William and Isabella spent some time in Chesterfield SC and then moved on to Barbour County, AL, where she is buried. His second wife was Charlotte Holland. I would love to know who William's parents were. It would be lovely to know how he got to NC if that is truly where he was born. And, then being really curious, I would like to know if his ancestors came from England or Ireland. I'm hoping there is a cousin out there who knows the answer. All cousins with whom I correspond seem not to know the circumstances of his birth, marriage, and moves. Any help would be gratefully received. Clarajane Teal Goux
If you are one of those quiet members who have not posted your line yet, I would like to invite you to post it this weekend. It will be a good way for us to get to know you and to find out if you might know the answer to one of the missing genealogical clues some of our members may be looking for, or if one of our members just might hold the clue you have been looking for. I look forward to hearing from you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. It will limit this downtime as much as possible, and will return with increased performance and reliability for future growth. The down time will be about 24 hours. If you do not receive any postings during this time do not worry, all will be back up and running soon. Your List Mom is going to take a 24 hours nap. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
