    3. Hi: I've been lurking in the background reading and reviewing the archives and thought I'd take the plunge and post my line in the hopes there may be some cousins out there!! I am descended from Zechariah Teal (1790-1865) and his wife Anna (1796-1874), through their son Jacob (1822-1907) and his wife Melinda Ellsworth, and through their son James Willis Teal (1853-1924) and his wife Margaret Eliza Baxter, through their son, Orin Leroy (1878-1962) and his wife Amelia (Millie) Allison and on down through my grandpa, Leroy Allison Teal and his wife Hazel McGee, then my Dad, then me! I would love to get more details on Zechariah and his wife and verify their children, etc. There was a story that my grandpa told me that Zechariah and his two brothers rode across the U.S./Canadian border on horses under cover of darkness to start a life here in Canada - how accurate that is I have my doubts!!! The family has always said we were Pennsylvannia Dutch (I'm not really certain what that means though) I have visited the Zion Cemetary in Ridgeway where a lot of Teals are buried and would be happy to share whatever info and photos I might have that other would be interested in. My grandpa left me copies of family lines, documents from Jacobs bible and I would be happy to trade info. Here's hoping.... Debbie Jamieson Ontario, Canada

I thought that Nancy and George W. Teal may be the parents of Lula Jane Teal that married John J. Barber all of Paulding Co., GA., but on the 1880 census Nancy and George have five children, and Lula is not listed. Of course the 1890 census is of no help and she was married by the 1900 census. So her parents are a mystery. Do you have any thing on the children of Nancy after 1880? Thanks.

I'm sorry I can't help with your question re: George Washington Teal but know someone who might be able to help. Do you know Candace Gravelle? She has GA Teals and I believe a George Washington Teal. I'm a descendent of NC>SC>AL>TX Teals and have hit brickwall. Do you by chance have A. Allen or William C Teal anywhere in your chart? Thanks in advance.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wYRBAIB/325.1.1 Message Board Post: I have only sketchy info on George Teel before he came to Texas. I will contact the person who wrote the bio for the Texas Handbook to see if she has additional info. He supposedly was in Tennessee or Missouri and left due to the earthquakes, then left Austin's Colony due to the weather. He was married to Nancy Coldwell. They had a child, Rachel, in 1816. I hope to fence the cemetery and repair/replace the markers as well as obtain a Texas State Historical Marker for the cemetery. Of course I am hoping to get donations from descendants as the cost will come to around $5000. Thanks for your response. You may contact me direct at sarahm51@houston.rr.com if you wish.

Surnames: Teal, Teel Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wYRBAIB/325.1 Message Board Post: Sarah, Since I have a George (Washington) TEAL in my line, I read the Texas State Handbook article, and checked Ancestry.Com (1850 Census) to see if there might be a connection, but there doesn't appear to be one. However, I came up with a question. The article states that George Washington Teel was born in 1784 and died in 1856. They should know. The Ancestry site lists George as 31 (b. ca 1818 in MD). The actual census image reflects 57 y/o (b. ca 1793 in MD). Is this a "different" George Teel (i.e., cousin, brother)? It's probably an error on the part of the Census taker, but having TEALs in my line from MD > NC > GA > AR, I'm curious. Also, a caveat for researchers to check actual census records and not rely on "indexes." Like Jane, let me know if I can help with the Cemetery restoration. Mike in NC

    3. Sarah: I read the article on your Teels. How sad about the cemetery. My Teal line goes back to the Carolinas and Baltimore, MD. Do you know who George's parents were? I have a Teal cemetery in AR that needs some maintenance. There are about 9 graves. There is a fence around it so at least the livestock can't get in there. I hope to go in October and see about it.
