I don't know if Laurens had their two large cotton Mills in 1850, but I know they used mechanics to work on the looms (loom fixers). One of the mills was called Watts Mill and the other was Laurens Mill. My Taylor relatives worked at Laurens Mill in the early 1900s..Their were mill villages around both mills that are still there. but closed.
