Samuel Taylor "the elder" bc 1720 and died cir Jul. 1791, Cumberland Co - his wife/widow was Sophia Childress Taylor who died after 1801, she was then living in Cumberland Co., Va. and probably died there. I am trying to locate records of their son Thomas Taylor - b 1760's "a younger son". Contrary to what has often been published and was once a DAR line...Thomas Taylor who married Dec 1785 Milly Markham DOES NOT belong in the family of Samuel & Sophia Childress Taylor. Thomas Taylor (son of Samuel & Sophia) had a wife Lucy - in records before and after the 1785 marriage date of Thomas and Milly. Phinihas Glover, a long time neighbor of the Samuel Taylor family wrote his will 20 Aug. 1785 & probated 27 Feb. 1786...he leaves to Lucy Taylor a negro girl and boy. Samuel Taylor and Joseph Taylor were named executors and Richard Taylor was a witness. This Lucy (Glover) Taylor is presumed to be the Lucy wife of Thomas Taylor. Cumberland Co Deed Bk 6 - Sept 1788. Thomas Taylor purchased from his brother Creed Taylor..land adj. the Bates Tract, James River, Willikinsons Mill Creek and the land whereon SAMUEL TAYLOR NOW LIVES. Cumberland Co Deed Book 8 - Nov. 1800 - Thomas and Lucy Taylor sell to Charles Gilliam this land adj. the Bates Tract, James River and Willinsons Mill Creek..and the land whereon SOPHIA TAYLOR NOW LIVES. [Joseph Taylor, son of Samuel & Sophia was married to Judith Gilliam] After 1801 - Thomas and Lucy Glover Taylor disappear into a sea of Thomas Taylors of Virginia and elsewhere. Because of several POAs in the early 1850s from some Taylors of Pickaway Co., Ohio - they "might" be children or grandchildren of Thomas and Lucy Glover Taylor. BUT that needs a lot more work. I am interested in all the children of Samuel and Sophia Childress Taylor but for now Thomas has me really stumped! Anne
