Since the talk has been about all the Indian is each line, all the different brothers that came over and fought the wars, and such..... I have a story that has 'floated' in our Taylor line for years. The story as told by my grandfather and his brothers was..... There was a boy and girl who fell in love and wanted to get married. Both families were against this marriage. So this enterprising young man and woman decided to take their future in their own hands. They got married. Yep... that will teach those old folkes a thing or two.... <g> Now... to keep the families from finding them and breaking up their marriage they decided to take the girls name, which was Taylor, instead of the boys name of Hays. Or so they say. <g> As to this being fact or not, I can't say.... but... I do have a Levi Taylor who married a Martha Hay. Or was that Levi Hay who married Martha Taylor? :)) I have found Levi Taylor in the 1840 census of Gwinnett County Georgia. So far nothing for 1850. In 1860 Gwinnett County Georgia they were listed as Levi "Tailor" and family. In this census I found a daughter, Sarah M., who married a Phillips with a son named Stephen. Stephen was born in 1858. One of Levi Taylor's granddaughters married a Stephen Monroe Phillips. This Stephen was also born in 1858. Is both Stephen's one and the same?? And another of Levi's granddaughters married one of her first cousins. I always wondered about my Taylor line and some of products there of... but I think I know the answer now. <gbg> So... has anyone heard this story about Taylor and Hays? Has anyone heard anything about Stephen Monroe Phillips from Newton County Georgia? If so... I would like to share information. Wyndell Taylor
