I have this story on my Taylor webpage www.geocities.com/janet_ariciu Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: "K Perk" <kperkins1@stny.rr.com> To: <TAYLOR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2002 4:59 PM Subject: [TAYLOR] Zachary Taylor's daughter > Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, was the son-in-law of Zachary Taylor, 12th president of the United States. In 1835 Davis married Sarah Taylor. They moved to Mississippi and began to operate a cotton plantation. Within months Sarah became ill with fever and died. She was 21 years old. After her death, Davis entered politics and served in the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. He then became secretary of war in the cabinet of Franklin Pierce. When the Civil War began in 1861, he took the oath of office as president of the southern states. > > > maybe this should be on the Davis web page. > >
Looking for a Ophelia "Orpie" TAYLOR was born abt 1834 in MS. She was ½ Choctaw Indian. She married Neal McFARLAND or McFARLAIN on Nov 29,1852 in Ashley CO, AR. Neal was born abt 1824 in SC. They moved to the Indian Territory (I.T.) some time after 1853 and bef 1896. They had one known daughter named Nancy "Nannie" on Oct 1853 in AR. Orpie and Neal are listed as dead on the 1896 Choctaw Census and as last living in Blue CO, I.T. (present day Bryan CO, OK) on their daughter's census record who was living in LeFlore CO, OK at that time. That's about all I know at this time. Georgann whunter@omniglobal.net
