    3. Hello Listers, I have learned so much from the postings here. There have been comments made in the past about Genealogy.com, Ancestry.com, and Rootsweb.com. I am currently a subscribed member of Ancestry.com because I have found the census records there very useful. So, I posted my genealogy file of over 25 years of research and 32,000+ people at Ancestry.com. I have received so many nice questions, comments, and corrections. What a wonderful way to share! However, a horrible thing happened to me last week. I discovered that since files at Ancestry.com are not protected, a person downloaded my ENTIRE file of 32,000+ people with my own writings, merged it with her file, and reposted under her own name. She went from a file of 20,000 to 52,000 with a few clicks of her computer keys! Is that what genealogy is??? Even after I notified her that I objected, she claims that she is ethically entitled to my file since it was downloadable. Unfortunately, I did not know that if I had posted at Rootsweb.com, I could have prevented this wholesale download. I cannot express how violated I feel! 25 years of work taken by someone who doesn't even care about most of these families. I personally believe that she downloads entire files routinely and this is how she has obtained most of her file since she admitted that she doesn't get to libraries or courthouses. So, please be aware that depending upon where you post, someone can take ALL OF YOUR WORK and put their name on it. Ann Blomquist Orlando, FL
