    3. Hello TAYLOR list members, I just wanted to let you know Rootsweb is in the process of migrating to new List Management software. If you were a subscriber in August, you were to have received notice of this. Lists are being migrated in steps; this week is TAYLOR's turn. The migration is scheduled for Monday, September 11, but dates have been slipping a bit so far as problems are resolved. When it does happen, you won't notice much change. There will no need to resubscribe when the lists are migrated. You will automatically be subscribed in whichever mode (List "L" or Digest "D") you are already on now. The biggest difference and maybe a drawback for some is that you can no longer have a single email address subscribed to both "L" and "D" modes (those currently on both will only be subscribed in the List mode). If you wish to receive lists individually *and* on digest, you will need a second email address. Apparently, being subscribed in two different modes with the same email address was unique to Rootsweb's old list management software (I know on the Yahoo lists I belong to, I have to make a choice). For some of you on the Digest mode, your digest might look a little different (not those of you on AOL, I'm told), but that can be changed. You can receive your digest Inline (all the messages available as soon as you open, one right after another) or in what is called MIME format, which looks the same as they now do (for all but AOL subscribers). Again, those on AOL will receive them as they always have - for the others, if you do not like the way your Digest looks, contact me and I will change the format back to what it was. Eventually, you will be able to change that and other settings yourself. Apparently, Rootsweb has been "limping" along for years with a software that worked, but which had been "tweaked" to its maximum capacity. This new software, called "Mailman," has features that work more like Yahoo or other mailing lists you might be used to, where you can actually go in and change some of your own settings, such as putting yourself on "No Mail" if you go on vacation instead of unsubbing and then subscribing again when you return. Those options won't be available immediately, but are forthcoming. When the migration first started, AOL was blocking mail because it was on a new server. We're told this has been resolved, but all are asked to double-check their "junk" or "s.pam" mail to make sure Rootsweb messages have not been sent there. Thanks, list members. I will send another e-mail letting you know when the list has been migrated and any changes that you should be aware of. Basically, this is just a "heads up" message - many of you on other lists are already aware of this. Since TAYLOR is toward the end of the alphabet, it is one of the last to migrate. All the bugs should be worked out by the time they get to our list :-) Marilyn list admin
