There are several Taylor’s in the early census records in Ohio County, VA (now WV in the Wheeling area). It looks like this county is adjacent to Washington County, PA. I have a Henry Taylor b. 1801 in Ohio County whos father died before 1803 and have not ruled out the possibility of the family actually coming from PA rather than VA (now WV). -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Hi Folks, There's a kinda parallel discussion of Washington Co., PA occurring on the Reddick list. Here's the thing - the state line between Pennsylvania and Virginia was purportedly adjusted in the vicinity of Washington County. Some of those Reddicks being discussed appear to have jumped across the state line. However, they may have actually kept on living in the same spot - only the state they lived in changed. Perhaps the same thing was happening to some of these Taylors. I hope that this suggestion proves to be helpful. Dale E. Yes, the present Ohio Co., WVA is now adjacent to the western counties of PA. But the county of Ohio is considerable older than the present one, which remained after several other counties in the Panhandle of WVA were established. The early Ohio Co., then of VA, extended into what is now western PA, along side of Yohogania, which no longer exists, and Mongahalia [spelling], some of which is south of Green Co., PA now. Unfortunately, there are no real early census for Ohio Co., as it now exists. However, there are tax records, court records, and some marriage records that are earlier than that. Also, very early court records for the original Ohio Co. Census Federal records for Wash Co start in 1800. Yes, some of the settlers were of Pennsylvania. Robert Taylor, who founded Taylortown in Wash Co. apparently was one of them. Too, I believe my ancestor, Isaac Taylor, came from Luzerne Co. before or about 1800. Many of them did not stay there but crossed the Ohio River when that part of Ohio state opened up.
