Arizona Daily Star Tucson, AZ December 19, 2005 TAYLOR, Mary Morehead, 81, of Charlottesville, VA, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday, December 16, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Katharine Boyd Hunt of Tucson, Arizona and the late William C. Morehead of Los Angeles, California. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William C. Morehead, Jr. She was born on December 3, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where her grandfather had co-founded the “Milwaukee Journal”, predecessor to the “Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.” She was a graduate of the Ethel Walker School and Smith College. Charlottesville had been her home since 1973. Previously, she had been a resident of Tucson, Arizona and Wilmington, Delaware, where she is survived by a number of cousins. Additionally, she was a long-time summer resident of Nantucket, Massachusetts. An ardent lover of dogs, horses, and other four-legged creatures, she provided a home for many animals and supported numerous humane organizations. Those who were less fortunate than she found her to be a kind and often-anonymous supporter. Mrs. Taylor is survived by four children; Stephanie H. Taylor of Stowe, Vermont, Mary T. Cooley of Upperville, Virginia, Harrison W. Taylor and Peter R. Taylor, both of Keswick, Virginia; and by eight grandchildren. On her mother’s side of the family she was a direct descendent of William Randolph, who settled on Turkey Island in the James River around 1650. Through her father she was a direct descendent of Charles Morehead, who arrived from Scotland about 1630 and lived on the Northern Neck.
