    1. [TAYLOR] Taylor DNA
    2. Hi Earl, I'm not an expert at DNA, but a few of my relatives have participated. To participate in a Y-study DNA test, the participant must be a male. If someone wants to find their Taylor ancestors, the gentleman participating must be a Taylor, son of a Taylor, grandson of a Taylor, etc. Females can participate, but from what I have been told, it's very difficult to show kinship. The females follow their mother's ancestry. It goes from the mother, to her mother, etc. From what I understand, the female tests show what "daughter of Eve" we came from, and how the groups traveled out of Africa. Your male cousin could not do the Taylor test unless his father, grandfather, etc. were Taylors. He can do his surname. I had searched and searched for a male Ferguson to do the Ferguson DNA test and finally found one a year ago. No one in my family could do the test because the last Ferguson in our family was my 3rd g-grandmother. It took me almost 2 years to find him, but I finally found a male descendant of my 3rd g-grandmother's brother. I would LOVE to find a male Taylor to do the Taylor test, but my son-in-law's mother (and she is the Taylor) was an only child and my son-in-law doesn't know of any male Taylors. That's why I would love to find a male descendant of the Maury Co., TN Taylors. I've had good luck in the 3 DNA family groups I've found guys to participate in, and I hope you have good luck, too. If you haven't already participated in the Taylor test, do so. Since Taylor is a very common name, you need to do the 37-marker or the 67-marker test. The 12-marker test doesn't work well with very common names - I found this out with the Clark DNA study. If the DNA test is done by Family Tree DNA in Houston, after you get your results back, you will have a web page and you can set it up to be notified if you match someone, and Family Tree DNA will send you an e-mail every time you match someone. In order for them to do this, you have to agree to share your results, and all you have to do is click on a screen that you agree to do this, or check something when you send in your sample. If you are trying to see if you match someone who didn't have their test at Family Tree DNA, you need to upload your results to Y-search and hopefully those other guys will, too. You upload to Y-search from your web page at Family Tree DNA. I hope this helps, and I wish you a very Happy New Year. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX clarksha@charter.net ---- Earl Taylor <eht2060@keyway.net> wrote: > Dale; Do all the Taylor DNA Tests share information?
