Hi Folks, As some of you may be aware, there is an ever-growing effort to sort out, separate, or bring together genetically homogeneous lineages within particular surnames. Such efforts are now underway for the Taylors. Here are the URLs for the several Taylor DNA projects. Some individuals are also members of regional DNA projects. Such an example can be found in the "Wiregrass Georgia" project. At present, the Taylor Family Genes project at FTDNA has results in on 82 members. I believe we are awaiting results on three newer members. As a co-administrator for that project, I've only been assisting individual Taylor researchers with uploading new results to Ysearch.org and then running comparative analyses of their Y-STR DYS values against both other Taylors and the general population of the Ysearch database. I haven't yet gotten around to even considering building a matrix representing all of the Taylor lines (which would be a very useful tool). Some of the results displayed at Ysearch.org are from Taylors who tested through Relative Genetics. The testing there has been separated into two projects. The larger project has 72 members and is administered by Ron Taylor. The smaller of the two projects has only one member. I hope that this information is helpful. Dale E. 1. Four groupings of genetically related Taylors.
    2. Dale E. Reddick
    3. Hi Folks, Our DNA testing firm FTDNA recently provided a mechanism to group and color-code project / group members whose results form matches. I just ran comparative matche analyses on everyone (82 of them) in the Taylor project tested through FTDNA. As a result, four small groups appear. My criteria were relatively simple: 1) Matches at -only- 12 markers aren't counted (too many false positive results occur at the level of 12 markers); 2) Matches at 25 markers are accepted with a genetic distance (GD) of ZERO or ONE; 3) Matches at 37 markers are accepted with a GD of 0, 1, or 2. Any GD value of 3 or more is just too problematic and so I'm trying to avoid mistakes of being overly inclusive. Just go to the FTDNA webpage at <http://www.familytreedna.com/public/taylorfamilygenes/index.aspx?fixed_columns=on> and look at the "Y Results" tab. Of the four groups that have emerged, the first two groups have members who've undergone SNP testing. Their haplogroup assignment is known to us. Also, the third and fourth groups have members who have tested out to 67 markers. Note that for some of the group members we have their earliest -known- ancestor displayed in a small information block in front of the their Y-STR DYS marker results. I hope that this information may prove to be helpful to some of you investigating your Taylor origins. Dale E. Reddick

    3. Hello Jerrald, Are you also a descendant of John W. G. Taylor and Mary Lake? Along with the names you listed, I also have Albert Taylor and George Washington Taylor. The info on George W. Taylor came from his great-granddaughter Sharon Rice. I will look up the information she sent concerning his birth and send it to you, I don't have it handy right now. The 1880 U.S. census for Spring Valley, Fillmore Co., MN (page 437B) shows Albert J. Taylor, age 5, b. MN, so he was born about 1875. Francis (Frank) Taylor was 12, so he was born about 1868 in IA. Marrietta was 14, so she was born about 1866, b. in IA. Charles was 18, so he was born about 1862 in CT. Mirtie Taylor was age 8, so she was born about 1876 in MN. This makes 12 children so far. I am interested in contacting descendants of as many of Elizabeth Jane Taylor's siblings as I can to see what information each line has concerning John W.G. Taylor's and Mary Lake's ancestry. I know where each of them were born. I have info on the parents of each, but can't find the info for Mary Lake right now, other than that she, along with at least her daughter Elizabeth Jane, was born in Methyr Tidryl, Wales. Need to go through my files again. I know John W. Gibson Taylor's parents, George Taylor and Mary Ann Small lived in Carolgate, East Retford, Nottinghamshire, England in the 1840 census. George was listed as a Veterinary Surgeon in the censuses until the last one which shows 'publican', meaning tavern owner. 3. Mike: Stephen & Sarah Roark Taylor do not show up in my database, and it's pretty complete for all my line, but there are a lot of unknowns further back. I show a number of Roarks, but no Sarah. My line comes down through William (1803), Isaac Jr. (1761), and Isaac Sr.(1720), with his father possibly William (1691). I know very little about Isaac Sr's children, other than their names. For what it's worth, William & Susan Taylor had 10 boys. At least 2 of them moved from Ashe County to McDowell County in West Virginia. Calvin is buried in Anawalt, but his brother William Jr. moved on to Casey County, KY.
