The results included him with matches within the Green color coded Taylors, however, his ancestry does not match any of those who have contributed their heritage. Although he genetically is linked to the line with VA and Carolina locales, he is descended from a New England line which wound up in the Midwest. I have found no other Taylor researchers who share these same individuals. They are: Taylor ? Likely in Britain, vicinity of Kent? William Taylor Born in 1625 in Concord, Middlesex, Massachusetts Death: 6 DEC 1696 in Concord, Middlesex, MA Deacon Abraham Taylor Born in Concord, MA? Is there anyone in the Taylor rootsweb group familiar with this line or any of the male Taylors? I have not yet determined how to find the matching link to the other testing Taylors. <mailto:pturnertaylor@adelphia.net> pturnertaylor@adelphia.net -----Original Message----- From: Dale E. Reddick [mailto:dereddi@hargray.com] Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2006 7:49 PM To: TAYLOR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Six groupings of genetically-related Taylors. Hi Folks, We've had some additional developments in terms of analyzing DNA testing results. One of our testing companies (Family Tree DNA [FTDNA]) has introduced a new function that allows us to place genetically related Taylors into groups arranged with color-coding. We now have five groupings that appear to be relatively firm with good matches amongst their members. This is a result of studying matches via three methods: 1) Those results known from this FTDNA page and the individual participants' webpage result listings; 2) The additionally available results found within the Ysearch.org database; 3) The fact that some of our participants have also been tested by another DNA testing company (Relative Genetics) and their results are being examined by this co-administrator. This results in some -very- useful cross-referencing of test results. What might not be so obvious with the results from one company then becomes -very- obvious when observing the results from that other company. This is (in part) what has happened with the following Taylor Group 06. Taylor Group 06 is a -somewhat- provisional group. This contains four members who happen to closely match the Scots and / or Dal Riata Modal Haplotypes. This group might eventually -partially- fall apart with further testing, as there are seemingly thousands of folks with close matches to those two modal haplotypes of Scottish origins. But, along with the known DNA results we found that two members of this group had a shared set of ancestors. Their respective paper trails / genealogies showed that they had a common pair of ancestors in the late 17th to middle 18th centuries in Virginia and North Carolina. This match would not have been found had not the co-administrator of this project noticed what -might- have been a genetic match between two of these individuals. Now, at least two of them are obviously genetic cousins. And perhaps a third and even a fourth will be found to also be cousins. Here are the short genealogies for the two individuals who make up the matches within Taylor Group 06. W. H. Taylor - Kit # 66126 1. Capt. Thomas Taylor, 1607 England - 1657 VA 2. Robert Taylor, Sr., 1648 VA - Unknown + Elizabeth Hudson 3. Robert Taylor, Jr., 1688 VA - 1758 NC + Mary Ann Hudson (Common Ancestors) 4. Joseph Taylor, 1728 NC - 1784 NC + Mary Powell 5. Meredith Taylor, 1764 NC - 1844 AL + Anna Duke 6. Jesse Duke Taylor, 1805 SC - Unknown AR + Mary Miller 7. Thomas Lewis Taylor, 1831 SC - 1886 KY + Adeline Winston Gatlin 8. Clinton Gatlin Taylor, 1857 MS - 1940 TN + Mary Susan Cook 9. William Harold Taylor, Sr., 1902 TN - 1974 TN + Cora Wilhelmina Fields 10. Kit Donor Taylor C. R. Taylor - Kit # 26356 1. Robert Taylor, 1688 VA - 1758 NC + Ann Hudson (Common Ancestors) 2. William Taylor, 1712 VA - 1762 VA + Mary Teagle 3. Thomas Teagle Taylor, 1734 NC - 1826 NC+ Celia Little 4. Stephen Taylor 1787 VA - 1848 NC + Nancy Curl(e) 5. Jesse Little Taylor, 1809 NC - 1896 AL + Beatrice Beday Taylor 6. Stephen Taylor, 1845 AL - 1917 AL +m2 Nancy Jemima Jackson 7. Newton Clement Taylor, 1907 - 1981 + Myrtie Marcum 8. Kit donor Taylor - Migration: VA, NC, AL As can be seen from these two genealogies, these two test participants do share a common set of ancestors in Robert Taylor, Jr. and Mary Ann Hudson. Without the matching DNA results that were noticed, then this finding of their shared genealogies might have taken far longer to discover. One of these Taylors has now gained the opportunity to move further back into his Taylor ancestry. If you have a brick wall involving your Taylor lineage, then I urge you to consider having a male Taylor relative undergo DNA testing. I hope that the above information proves to be helpful. Sincerely, Dale E. Reddick Co-Administrator, Taylor Family Genes DNA Surname Project ______________________________

Hi Ann, I simply utilized the genealogies provided by the two DNA testing participants. I have no knowledge of these lines' names, dates, or place-names. You'll have to take up any discussion regarding those two genealogies with the two participants of the DNA testing. I'll BCC this to W. H. Taylor, as I have his e-mail address. Perhaps he will respond directly to your questions. Unfortunately, the e-mail address provided to me for C. R. Taylor is no longer unavailable (perhaps he moved - certainly he's at least changed his e-mail address). Oh, BTW - Mary Ann Hudson sounds a whole lot like Ann Hudson. Also, there's the simple fact that their scientifically determined Y-STR DYS values of their Y-chromosomes do match. The particulars of their genealogies aren't quite so important to me as is the fact that they've got the matching results. These two men strongly -appear- to be genetically related. And there are those paper genealogical records posted by both of them that point to shared ancestries. I believe that the latter two points represent what most of us are looking for - connections. I myself can barely get my late mother's Taylor line back to circa 1800 before the trail turns into the ashes of two courthouse fires (others in her various lineages I can take back to the 1734 Swiss Purysburg [choose your spelling] settlement on the Savannah River in colonial South Carolina or even to the Plymouth settlement of Massachusetts - which is to say, we've all got brick walls and we've also mostly got someone famous or infamous in our long lineages) Dale ________________________________ Ann Blomquist wrote: > Hello, > > I have some questions about the two Taylor families which you posted. > > In "W.H. Hello, I have some questions about the two Taylor families which you posted. In "W.H. Taylor - Kit #66126": I do not believe that the evidence supports your arrangement of several generations. Robert Taylor (c1662-1693) married Lurana Hudson. Their son Robert Taylor (c1678-1758) married 3 times: (1) Elizabeth, (2) Mary, (3) Ann Hudson. It should be: Robert Taylor c1662-1693, wife Lurana Hudson Robert Taylor c1687-1758, wife (2) Mary Joseph Taylor c1728, etc Documented referenced narratives of both of these Robert Taylors can be found beginning at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ann_blomquist&id=I08540 What is the evidence that Robert Jr's wife was "Mary Ann Hudson?" Carolyn...Yes, it is! And and for this man, it has meant so much! You see, Howard left his own young family many years ago & they had no idea where they were. It was only 6 yrs ago that his sons, with mine & my mother in laws help, did they find & reconnect with him again! [I did the searching online] & she conveyed to the sons his whereabouts! Now that he's back in this area, Howard realizes just what he's missed all of these years! And he's trying very hard to make up for lost time. Finding out more about his own father's family is hopefully going to help heal some hurts! God bless you too! I am so very happy that I was able to provide some missing information. I think it so important to know who your people are. I love doing genealogy research because to me it is like solving a history puzzle. Take care and God bless. Carolyn

Crane Hilda G. aged 16, is a high school junior. "How did we get our names?" she began. "And I mean both our first names as well as our surnames?" The surnames didn't arrive till about 1500 in Europe, for population was not so great that last names were greatly needed. Moses and Aristotle and Galileo and other great figures of the past had no surnames. But when too many boys in an English village held the name "John," something else had to be added. Thus, surnames arose. John, the carpenter, soon became John Carpenter. John, the gold smith, was shortened to John Goldsmith. If he lived by the meadows, he was called John Meadows. Just look through your city telephone directory and you will find all sorts of trades now used as surnames. John Stout; John Short; John Longfellow; John Farmer; John Castle, etc., show that surnames came from personal traits, as well as trades and locations. But our first names likewise developed from basic root meanings in Latin, Greek or Hebrew, as shown for the girls'names below: Abigail (my father is joy); Adelaide (of noble rank); Agatha (kind); Agnes (pure); Alice (truth); Alma (cherishing); Amanda (worthy to be loved); Amelia (industrious); Amy (beloved); Ann (grace); Avis (bird). Barbara (foreign); Beatrice (she makes happy); Belle (beautiful); Bertha (bright); Beulah (married); Bridget (lofty). Camilla (freeborn girl); Caroline (strong); Celeste (heavenly); Charlotte (strong); Clara (bright); Constance (firmness); Cora (Maiden). Deborah (a bee); Diana (goddess); Dinah (judged); Dolores (sorrows); Dorcas (a gazelle); Dorothy (gift of God); Edna (rejuvenation); Elizabeth (consecrated); Estella (from a star); Ethel (noble); Eunice (happy victory); Evelyn (youth). Felicia (happiness); Flora (flowers); Florence (prosperity); Frances (a free woman); Frieda (peace). Gertrude (spear maiden); Gloria (glory); Grace (favor); Hilda (battle maid); Honora (honorable); Huldah (a weasel). Irene (Peace); Iris (rainbow); Janet, Jane and Joan (God is gracious); Judith (praised); Laura (laurel); Leila (dark as night); Letitia (happiness); Lilian (lily); Lola (sorrows). Margaret (a pearl); Martha (lady); Matilda (heroine); Minnie (love); Naomi (my sweetness); Patricia (noble); Phoebe (shining); Phyllis (a green bough); Prudence (discretion). Rachel (a ewe); Regina (queen); Rhoda and Rosa (a rose); Rosalind (a pretty rose). Sarah (a princess); Stella (a star); Susan (a lily); Victoria (victory); Viola (a violet); Zoa (life). Many femail first names are taken from similar masculine names, as Caroline and Charlotte, which stem from Charles.
