    1. James Taylor, civil war vet

    3. Since the list is active right now, I think it's a good time to ask about my "brick wall". He's James taylor, born 1844 and served in civil war from Mass. His pension papers give his pob as Vt. but there are no records of his birth, or anything on his parents. His parents were Francis and Martha, (possibly Foss). He married in RI and died in Lowell, Ma. 1884. I've checked all census and haven't found his parents or him before he appears in 1880. I would appreciate any info and/or suggestions! Thanks...Maryann

    3. Hello, That is what I was asking, just for a outline of who and what families and from where they are. It seem like there are alot of e-mails on this so rather then all of us posting on the Taylor site about it as I and sure like you don't even know who to contact that put the first e-mail but would like to know about it to see if we want to get one. It seems like this would help on the e-mails as I and others do not know who to contact about it so the only place to do so is on this list. 1. Re: from the admin re: TAYLOR BOOK/CD
    2. marilynandmonty
    3. Barbara, You can post anything you want about a book/CD on the lists. Rootsweb just doesn't want to see money mentioned or it "appears" to be a commercial post. In the past those who were strictly in the publishing business would subscribe, post a list of what was being sold, give contact information, unsubscribe and go on to the next surname or locality and do the same. Rootsweb is not a forum for free adverstisement, so they ruined it for the researcher who wants to tell about publishing his/her family book. However, a person publishing a history of their family is a whole different matter. He or she is not in the publishing business and is not doing this to make money (sure you need to recoup your expenses, that's understandable). That person can list their Table of Contents, excerpts from the book/CD, whatever they wish from their family. In fact, it would be better to tell which TAYLOR lines and then ask those who are interested to contact him/her offline for details on price and shippping, as I mentioned before. That way, there aren't several hundred "Me too" messages and he or she does not have to explain several hundred times which family line it is. So, please, I encourage the person who first wrote about it (forgive me, I don't remember who it was) to talk about who, what, where, etc. - a conversation can take place on the list, no problem. But when it comes to actually purchasing the product, ironing out those details, and personal addresses and/or phone numbers, please take it off list. That satisfies Rootsweb policy and protects the privacy of those who really wouldn't want their full name and address listed on line. Checks or money orders will have to be sent, so send that information to the person offering the product. All messages posted here are archived and remain that way forever. Thanks, and I hope that clears up the confusion. 1. Re: [TAYLOR] My Bradley Taylor and family - I think?
    2. D Michael Johnson
    3. While I don't know how Bradley Taylor became associated as son of Merritt Taylor (and have no proof that he isn't), my I offer the following alternative????? Two of the other names you mentioned were Alsadie Taylor (wife of Irson Olinger) and Sarah G. Taylor (wife of Rodney Linnell). We find Bradley Taylor in White County in 1850. He is living next door to a Joseph Branneman, whose wife is named Alrada. Could Alrada be the Alsadie you listed??? Also note that there is a Sarah Olinger, age 10, listed with Joseph and Alrada. As she is listed after the younger child Emily, this possibly indicates that Sarah is of another marriage by Alrada. Could Sarah Olinger be a daughter of Irson and Alsadie/Alrada Olinger? Did Alsadie/Alrada divorce from Irson Olinger and marry second to Joseph Branneman? There is an Ireson Olinger in White County in 1850, with wife named Sarah (possibly his second wife??) Note also that there is a Sarah J. Taylor, age 14, living in this Branneman household, who could fit the Sarah G. Taylor you listed. 1850 District 13, White County, Illinois 1437/1437 Joseph Branneman, 39, m, farmer, b Pennsylvania Alrada, 31, f, b Pennsylvania Emily A., 2, f, b Pennsylvania Sarah Olinger, 10, f, b Pennsylvania Sarah J. Taylor, 14, f, b Illinois Mary E., 8, f, b Ilinois Mary King, 47, f, b Pennsylvania 1438/1438 Bradley Taylor, 21, m, laborer, b Pennsylvania Julia, 23, f, b Pennsylvania Susan Smith, 10, f, b Pennsylvania Now, not withstanding the fact that dates and places of birth continually change throughout the Census records, please note that in the above Census record, Alrada and Bradley listed their place of birth as Pennsylvania, while Sarah J. and Mary E. listed it as Illinois. If they are the same family, that would indicate to me that the family moved from Pennsylvania (or wherever they they were born) to Illinois between 1928 and 1836. As an alternative set of parents, could Alrada, Bradley, Sarah, and Mary be the children of the following Pearson/Peerson Taylor? 1840 Census, White County, Illinois Peerson Taylor - 1010000100000 2311001000000 one male age 50-60, one female age 40-50, one female age 15-20 (Alrada?), one male (Bradley?) and one female age 10-15 (unknown?), three females age 5-10 (Sarah, Mary, and Elizabeth?), one male (John?) and two females under age 5 (Harriett and one unknown?). 1850 Census, District 13, White County, Illinois 403/403 Pearson Taylor, 63, m, farmer, b Pennsylvania Margt., 53, f, b N.C. John, 13, m, b Indiana Harriet J., 11, f, b Illinois Elizabeth, 17, f, b Indiana The above just something for possible consideration. Here is Julia in 1880 and 1900 Census. Appears that Bradley died before 1880, perhaps in the Civil War?? 1880 Census, Holland Township, Shelby County, Illinois 127/128 Julia A. Taylor, self, w, f, 53, widow, keeping house, b Illinois, father b Tennessee, mother b Kentucky Henry E., son, w, m, 27, single, works on farm, b Illinois, father b Illinois, mother b Illinois Martha A., daughter, w, f, 16, single, at home, b Illinois, father b Illinois, mother b Illinois 1900 Census, Holland Township, Shelby County, Illinois 200/200 Harry Taylor, head, w, m, May 1853, 47, single, b Illinois, father b Illinois, mother b Illinois Julia, mother, w, f, May 1826, 74, widow, 6 children, 3 living, b Illinois, father b Tennessee, mother b Kentucky And here are the Census records for Merritt (just in case): 1830 Census, White County, Illinois Merret Taylor - 1020010000000 0110200000000 1840 Census, White County, Illinois Merret Taylor - 0110101000000 1000110000000 Cheers, Michael Kent Island, Maryland ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Smith" <eor@saber.net> To: <TAYLOR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 19, 2006 3:22 AM Subject: [TAYLOR] My Bradley Taylor and family - I think? > Hello Everyone, > I am asking if anyone has anything that connects my gg-grandparent > Bradley > Taylor with this family. 3. Hello Everyone, I am asking if anyone has anything that connects my gg-grandparent Bradley Taylor with this family. I have looked and been unable to find anything that links him to this family, if someone will just tell me how they found he belongs to this family so I can send for the document as Bradley and Julia leave Shelby ILL. after the 1860 census. I find his wife Julia on the 1900 census as a widow. If he belongs to this family maybe he moved around his family in Henry CO. or somewhere and I maybe able to find his death as he isn't on the ILL. death site. All the information I have is what is below and still have not been able to connect Bradley to this family even though he is listed on sites as being apart of it. I can not find a marraige on Bradley and Julia or a death on Bradley and Julia has unknown on all on her death cer. so dose her daughter Martha Taylor Nichols that married Charles Nichols also there daughter Eliza Melinda Taylor (g-grandmother) I am not able to find any death on her. 1. Dose anyone know any of these Taylor families
    2. Barbara Smith
    3. Hello, Need some help as these Brenneman, Smith and Taylor families seem to be linked but I can't sort them out. On White CO. ILL. 1850 census there is a Joseph Brenneman 39, Alzada Olinger wife31, (married 10-08-1846 White, ILL.) Emily 2, Sarah Olinges 10, Sarah J. Taylor 14, Mary F. Taylor 8, Mary King 47. I think Emily 2, is the daughter of Joseph and Alazada the other 3 children must belong to Mary King yet there isn't a King and Taylor that fit with marraige time and age on the ILL. marraige Index. I have been working on this little puzzel for about 5 years so could use any help. Next door to them live my gggrandparents Bradley Taylor 21, Julia (Smith) Taylor 23, Susan Smith 10, I don't know if Susan is a little sister to Julia or what. I have searched the marraige index thinking Mary King was a sister to either Braley Taylor because of the Taylor children in the home. I also checked to see he she may have need a sister to Alazda or Joseph but none fit to King name or her age. Dose anyone have anything on this or these family? I will welcome any help. My Taylor family is a brickwall and I am not able to find this Brenneman family and who lives by them after 1850 and I have tried to look at the ILL. marraige index but the names and years are to common to find a marraige for any of the children to follow and look for them on a census. I think this family is linked to bother the Taylor and Smith family next door, just can't find out how. Thank you for any help, Barbara eor@saber.net
