Hi Jim...I don't have any info to connect your John Taylor with my line, but my Robert William Forbes Taylor b 1849, son of James Taylor and Jane Hastings, came from the Carirnbanno area of New Deer, Aberdeenshire. Robert's witness at birth was Capt. Forbes of Cairnbainno House and Robert named his son James Forbes Taylor. Possible connection there. Robert's father was also a blacksmith. If I could get back one more generation, maybe we could connect. Good luck! Marilyn, et al. The Taylor CD mentioned is simply a CD made from the book written by Robert D Taylor of Yucaipa, CA "Isaac Taylor of Augusta Co. VA." He submitted it to the FHCenter in SL City. It is available for rental on microfilm and microfiche. A group of cousins rented it and made photocopies and shared expense. Now we want it on CD, Robert isn't interested so one of the cousins is scanning it and making a CD when finished we will again share the expense. It's a long tedious process for someone engaged in making a living. Hi Earlene, Per RootsWeb policy I cannot mention the pricing of DNA testing. However, you can go to the following URL to see how to join Taylor Family Genes DNA Project. Join the Taylor Surname Project http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=Q83848&special=true I would strongly urge your brother or cousin to start with at least a 25 marker Y-STR test. The minimal 12 marker level of testing is becoming less useful as more individuals are being tested. This has actually become a bit troublesome with Taylors (and other surnames) who have R1b haplotype results (a very, very common set of markers - lots of false positive results can arrive with this set of haplotypes if tested at only the 12 marker level). If possible, test at the 37 or even the 67 marker level. The larger number of markers tested, the better the likely result of not arriving at a false positive 'match'. I'll send you a pricing index separate from the list. I like that website because sometimes it will lead me in the right direction and sometimes it doesn't. That's right, Carla. I agree with your documentation statement, too. But, the LDS records can be a good "jump- off" point. Going to their family history centers, in their churches, has been invaluable to me. They don't bother you about being Mormon; sometimes they have *very* knowledgeable and helpful volunteers working, and they keep microfilms and fisches on hand or you can order them to be sent there. Those have the copies of the actual documents..... they are so interesting to look at! I love that stuff. :) Teri
It is a "tool". I like going to the local LDS Family History Group where you can order the microfilmed original documents, etc. but some of the Family Trees that people have posted for my family that I have documentation on are so off it makes me cringe. Unfortunately my Taylor's are the family I have the very least documentation on and wish there was some info posted on them at familysearch.org but nada..not even any bad info...they just don't seem to be part of anyone else Taylor search. The worst part is I have Taylor married to a Taylor (supposedly not related) so I can't even find much on maiden names...I did find one for a great grandmother and she was a Jones... I agree, except that the microfilm records are copies of actual vitals and are okay. But, when you use their online search feature you will get hits from their IGI database. It is notoriously wrong. This info is posted by church members who are looking for their ancestors in order to baptise them posthumously into the church. Many use unverifiable info. And, the LDS church will NOT make corrections. They will only allow you to submit correct info to be posted along with the bad.
