I posted this query many months ago, but the recent one concerning Taylors in Indiana prompts me to post it again in hope a new member to the Taylor forum will recognize the names and have additional information. According to a family Bible "Register", copied by the DAR years ago and placed in the Indiana State Archives, Israel Taylor, son of Cornelius and Mary Fail Taylor, was born in 1809. From the age of his oldest child, at some time around 1830 he married Sarah Ann. She is indicated to have been the daughter of Andrew White. This marriage may have taken place in Illinois where his father Cornelius Taylor and family had settled about 1817 when it was a territory. It is assumed Israel and Sarah Ann lived in Knox Co., Ind. based on the 1840, 1850 and 1860 Federal census records for Knox Co., and the fact that these census all indicate the children were born in Indiana. His children and wife are listed in these census, but not Israel who died in 1839. Israel and Mary White Taylor had 4 children in the family record. 1. Cornelius Taylor, born in September 1833, who died a month later 2. George W. (Washington) Taylor born in 1837 3. Mary Elizabeth Taylor born in 1837, who married Joseph P. Curry 4. Israel Taylor, born in 1839. Israel Taylor is listed in the 1850 and 1860 Federal census in the family of William Curry. His mother Sarah Ann Taylor had married William Curry some time between 1840 and the census of 1850. George W. Taylor is not listed in these census. However, the 1840 census, an enumeration for Sarah Ann's family indicates that he was still alive in 1840. He must have died by the time of the 1850 census. In the 1860 census "I. Taylor" is listed as "R. Roading", which I have taken to be "Rail Roading". There are two marriages of an Israel Taylor in the Knox Co. records: to Isadore Myers in 1860 and to Mary Pegg in 1865. I do not know that this is the Israel Taylor of my interest. In the 1870 Federal census for Vincennes, Knox Co., Ind., the family of Joseph P. and Mary E. Curry is listed as: Eliza age 13, Sillie M. (female) age 10, William age 7 and Sarah age 5. In this same family is Sarah, age 54, born Ohio. I am particularly interested to discover more about Israel Taylor , Jr. However, if there are descendants of the Mary Taylor Curry family who are interested in their Taylors, I will be pleased to hear from them. Finally, the Bible from which the family register of Israel and Mary White Taylor was copied was owned in 1978 by Mr. D. Frank Culbertson, reported to be a descendant of the Taylors. If anyone knows of the present location of his Bible I will delighted to learn. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. EcT of PGH
Hi Gwen.....I am the gr granddaughter of Sarah Ellen Taylor Head....who lived and died in Morgan co IN. She and her husband Josiah Calvin Head migrated to Indiana in the mid 1850's from Yadkin (formerly Surry) Co NC. Her parents were Matthew Taylor Jr and Frances Martin, married in Surry Co NC. I have her siblings names also. If this sounds familiar, let me know Barbara Head Ward in Indiana
Hi Gwen - With what dates are your Taylors associated? I have Taylors around Vincennes in the mid 1800s, but I do not know what happened to a son of Israel Taylor of that time, named Isaac, who disappears from the census after Israel's wife marries another man after Israel's death. The last census with Isaac's name implies that he was working on the railroad. Hi, I am new to the list and just wanted to add my search for my Taylor's of Owen CO. Indiana or in that area. Any help will be appreciated. Gwen
I'd appreciate any info (birth, death, burial, probate, estate) for following Taylors anyone with the resources can dig up: Wesley W. Taylor, born 1833 Indiana, married 18 Jul 1852 Edgar Co, IL, Betsy Matilda Jones (born 1833 Edgar Co, Illinois). He arrived Edgar Co after 1853, farmer until after 1870 census, then attorney in Paris, Edgar Co., IL. Served Co D, 79th IL Inf Reg as CPL until disabled Jan 1864. He disappears after 1880 census, although son Cyrus G. Taylor and daughter Amelia Wishort are in 1910 Paris, Edgar, IL census. Withford G. Taylor (Wesley's son), born 1853, Helt Township, Vermillion Co, Indiana, married 5 Mar 1874, Edgar Co, IL, Jennie A.K. Paddock (born 1855 NY). He was a farmer in Paris, Edgar, Il, and disappears after 1880 census. Jennie is also illusive. Cyrus C. Taylor (Withford's son), born around 1877 Paris, Edgar, IL. He, too, disappears until I find him married to my grandmother, Polly Veatrice Crews, in Altus, OK, in 1920, having married her in Jan 1914, and being identified in the 1920 census as K M Jones. He disappears again after 1922. Robert Taylor (805) 216-7992 (c) R.Taylor211@verizon.net
Hi Folks, This was just posted via the GaArchives effort of USGenWeb to the Screven County, Georgia e-mail list. The mentioned Rocky Branch is a bit of a mystery to me. There is a Rocky Creek in the northeastern portion of Screven County, which is a tributary of the Savannah River. Most of its modern watercourse and length is found within the bounds of the Wade Plantation. However, this Rocky Branch is described as a tributary of Beaver Dam Creek (a tributary of Brier Creek, which in turn is a tributary of the Savannah River). Dale E. Sorry if this is a duplicate, but my e-mail client has thrown a 'wobbler' :-) Hi As promised, the 'all new' Tomasin Family History Project web site has finally been completed and is launched at www.tomasin.org.uk/genealogy ! Powered by Darrin Lythgoe's <http://lythgoes.net/genealogy/software.php>The Next Generation , it has all the 'features' of the old site and more! The new site is far more user friendly with it's inter-connectivity between tables, charts, text and graphics - try it now! Use it and check your own details, or your family's details, and let me know if they are correct or need amending. 'Bookmark' the site now, or add it to your 'Favorites', for return visits to use the 'What's New on the Site' feature. If you can add any new individuals or more details for the 'Biographies' section, or a photo' or two for the 'Photograph' section, then please reply with the details. Hello, After working on my Taylor family for a long time here is a few bits of information that might help someone to connect. In a land deal around the Four Holes Swamp and the St Matthews Parish, John Taylor, mentions two sons James R. and Joseph> I've followed John and Joseph On the census and a tax list in 1818, then the 1810, 1820 and 1830 census. Next Joseph and Susannah Taylor was in Berkeley County< SC census with five children. In Feb 1852 both Joseph and Susannah died. This family of Taylors lived in the Orangeburg District for fifty-sixty years before moving to Berkeley County. At the time they were living in the Orangeburg District they knew th e Baylors, Williams, Metts and Clarks.I'm looking for any connection where they might have come out of NC and VA or where they might have come from Europe to Charleston, SC. Any clues, comments or information would be appreciated. Thanks, Murray Taylor
Faith, Thank you for your reply. I have been researching my Smith line for about fifteen years. Most successful to have connected and proven all of my finds thus far. I even made a living connection in Surry, England, they came over to visit and brought lots of information along. My line began in Nottingham, with my gg-grandfather being born there. He sailed to America in 1844, was an architect in St. Louis, Mo., until his sudden death in 1873. The ancestors in Fredericksburg, Virginia have pretty much been researched by my fifth cousin in Surry. I will send him the sites you suggest. The Smith's that came over and making their home in Fredericksburg, had come over about twenty years prior to my branch. Is there anyone on the list researching Taylors in Maury Co., TN? My son-in-law's gg-grandfather was John Wesley Taylor, born 16 Jan 1856 in TN. I am convinced that he was the son of Martha and John W. Taylor of Maury Co. Their son, John W., was the right age to be my son-in-law's John Wesley. No one in my son-in-law's family knows a thing about their Taylor ancestors. Here is an obituary I obtained for John Wesley Taylor who died in Callahan Co., TX: Baird Star - 18 Jun 1926 John Wesley Taylor, Dies - John Wesley Taylor, father of Mrs. R. A. The funeral was held at the Baptist Church Saturday, conducted by Rev. Joe R. Mayes, Pastor. Interment in Ross Cemetery. Mr. Taylor had been in ill health for some time before his death. I have no idea if he was related to Gov. Bob Taylor of TN or not, but Gov. Bob's father was Nathaniel Green Taylor. Martha and John W. Taylor of Maury Co. had a son, N. G. Emma and John W. Taylor were married 1880 in Hunt Co., TX, and I haven't been able to find them in 1880; they were in Limestone Co., TX in 1900, Taylor Co., TX in 1910, and Hill Co., TX in 1920. Emma B. Roan Taylor was in Callahan Co., TX in 1930 and died 1940 in Big Spring, Howard Co., TX. I would love to find some information on Martha (especially her surname) and John W. Taylor.
