    3. Gwen; I feel we may be related but need more data. I descend from Isaac Taylor b 1700 Antrim, Ireland and Isabella Wilson they came to Orange co. VA abt 1737. They migrated thru NC, TN, AL, MS, KY, AR, TX. My father was James Wesley Taylor, his father was James Albert, whose father was William Morrow Taylor b 1832 AL. son of Joseph Taylor who was married in Knox co. TN abt 1790. 3. Hi Folks, New test results for a Taylor were reported today by FTDNA. His results match those of a previously tested Taylor. The Taylor with the new results is from Los Angeles, California - but, by way of India. The Taylor with whom he matches is from Alberta, Canada. These two individuals also have two other -possible- matches from amongst those who have been tested at FTDNA. I've have e-mailed the four individuals to notify them of these -likely- / -possible- genetic matches. We are ever so slowly finding groupings of genetically related Taylors. Sincerely, Dale E. 3. Peggy; There were several Barzillais in my line with spelling variations such as Brazilla. Mine, Barzillai Barnard was b Apr 1763 Nantucket, MA and migrated to TN and he died nr Huntsville, Madison co. AL. He had a "Plantation" on Brier Creek nr Huntsville, AL I think NASA has an installation there now. Joseph Taylor and wife Jane Blackburn had Plantation on other side of Brier Creek. Their children Albert C Taylor and Martha Matilda Barnard married and moved to Aliceville, Pickens co. AL. They later moved to Noxubee, MS and on to TX. I know my Isaac had a cousin named Isaac who lived near him and named his kids mostly the same And there was an Isaac Taylor in PA who was a surveyor I once saw a list of 100 + Isaac Taylors on the east coast abt this time. There were many Taylors and Isaac was a common name. Other popular names in my line are William, Robert, Thomas, Andrew, Mathew, James. I think my Isaac's father was William but have no proof, My Isaac was b Antrim, Ulster, Ireland abt 1700. He came to America, Lexington, VA, abt 1737. Had sons Andrew, George, John, Isaac Jr., and William. I have children and descendants of Andrew and Isaac Jr One child for George and nothing on John and William except spouses. 2. Hi Earl, I'm not an expert at DNA, but a few of my relatives have participated. To participate in a Y-study DNA test, the participant must be a male. If someone wants to find their Taylor ancestors, the gentleman participating must be a Taylor, son of a Taylor, grandson of a Taylor, etc. Females can participate, but from what I have been told, it's very difficult to show kinship. The females follow their mother's ancestry. It goes from the mother, to her mother, etc. From what I understand, the female tests show what "daughter of Eve" we came from, and how the groups traveled out of Africa. Your male cousin could not do the Taylor test unless his father, grandfather, etc. were Taylors. He can do his surname. I had searched and searched for a male Ferguson to do the Ferguson DNA test and finally found one a year ago. No one in my family could do the test because the last Ferguson in our family was my 3rd g-grandmother. It took me almost 2 years to find him, but I finally found a male descendant of my 3rd g-grandmother's brother. I would LOVE to find a male Taylor to do the Taylor test, but my son-in-law's mother (and she is the Taylor) was an only child and my son-in-law doesn't know of any male Taylors. That's why I would love to find a male descendant of the Maury Co., TN Taylors. I've had good luck in the 3 DNA family groups I've found guys to participate in, and I hope you have good luck, too. If you haven't already participated in the Taylor test, do so. Since Taylor is a very common name, you need to do the 37-marker or the 67-marker test. The 12-marker test doesn't work well with very common names - I found this out with the Clark DNA study. If the DNA test is done by Family Tree DNA in Houston, after you get your results back, you will have a web page and you can set it up to be notified if you match someone, and Family Tree DNA will send you an e-mail every time you match someone. In order for them to do this, you have to agree to share your results, and all you have to do is click on a screen that you agree to do this, or check something when you send in your sample. If you are trying to see if you match someone who didn't have their test at Family Tree DNA, you need to upload your results to Y-search and hopefully those other guys will, too. You upload to Y-search from your web page at Family Tree DNA. I hope this helps, and I wish you a very Happy New Year. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX clarksha@charter.net ---- Earl Taylor <eht2060@keyway.net> wrote: > Dale; Do all the Taylor DNA Tests share information? You need to have a living male with surname Taylor that is willing to provide a sample of his DNA. The sample is taken with a simple mouth swab and involves no pain or blood. It is done by rubbing the swab on the inside of the cheek and then mailing the samples to the DNA processing lab. Go to www.relativegenetics.com and order the 26 marker kit. Indicate on the return mailer that you wish to be included in the Taylor Family DNA Project. I am the coordinator for the project. We have about 90 participants in the study as of today with more samples in process. We would like to be able to categorize all the various Taylor lineages based on their DNA patterns. We are especially interested in Taylor families that have early American roots. Some of those that are heavily involved in the study have connections to Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. We have a few others with New England lineages. We are seeking participants in Europe in hopes that we might find some ancestral homes of some of the Taylor families. Others just want to know if they are related to President Zachary Taylor or some other famous family. This will become more clear with more participants. Thanks for your inquiry (Dora in Canada). 3. Earl, I don't know that it means anything, but I noticed you mention OK a lot, and my grandpa, Cyrus C. Taylor headed that way sometime after 1880. He met my grandmother and married her in Jackson Co (Altus?) Jan 1914 after she divorced her husband, Joseph Warren McLain. Her maiden name was Polly Veatrice Crews, daughter of Thomas Covington Crews and Sibby Eleanor O'Hair, who moved to Ardmore, OK, in 1893 from TX. Wonder if he had kin there? I'm also following your DNA issue, too - interesting! 3. Hi Earl, No, not all of the projects share information. Some members of projects have provided me with their login information and I periodically try to find new matches for members across the projects. That has worked for you and Jeb, as your results at Relative Genetics were more informative than the results you had through FTDNA. So, yes - it's possible to be in one project and not know about an actual genetic cousin in another project. That's why individuals need to upload their results to publicly accessible databases such as Ysearch.org. Then, the research tools provided there can find genetic matches by searching the entire database of folks who have tested at multiple companies. And no, you need direct male lineage to perform a Y-chromosomal Y-STR test of paternal ancestry. Women do not carry the Y chromosome. And it's the Y chromosome which does not mix with other paired copies of chromosomes. The Y chromosome is passed along from father to son in an unaltered fashion, except for mutations. So no, a woman will not pass along a male Taylor Y chromosome to her son. Dale _________________________________ Earl Taylor wrote: > Dale; Do all the Taylor DNA Tests share information?
