Hi to all on the list, In doing this message I am digging in the family dirt----as the older members of the family say----but to me everyone has dirt or things that they do not like to talk about. It is all a part of the family story---and a part of us all. Here is my search and I hope someone can help me. My grandmother was Zilpha Catherine Campbell (might be found spelled Cathryn --she went by her middle name) born Oct 31, 1900 Williamsburg Kentucky (daughter of Francis Asbury "Frank" Campbell and Colice Simpson). I am trying to find info on the father of a child she had BEFORE she married my grandfather Lee Valentine. It is said the father was Charles Taylor. I do not know if my grandmother was married to this man or not. I do know that she went to Monroe Michigan to work in a ketchup factory, and this is where she gave birth to a son. I have not been able to find a birth certificate on him-----but ---my grandmother wrote his birth date and place of birth on the back of my father's birth certificate----My father was the 1st child born after she married my grandfather Lee Valentine. The childs first and middle name was Harry Edward. As I said I do not know if my grandmother was married to Charles Taylor or not---so I do not know if the last name of Harry Edward should be Taylor or Campbell. Harry Edward was born May 15, --the year might be 1920--1921--1922. I do not know if my grandmother met Charles Taylor in Kentucky or after she went to Michigan. After my grandparents marriage Harry always used Valentine for his last name. Catherine died in 1981 and took alot of secrets to her grave. Harry passed in Aug of 2001-------I am trying to help his children find their father's birth family. Rosalie Valentine Coon sleepingbeauty1@prodigy.net

Hi all, this is my first time on your list and I'm hoping someone can help me. I have very, very little on my Taylor line, in fact I've only just discovered I had Taylors in my family. My connection comes from a William taylor, born around 1829 in Disserth, Radnorshire, Wales. He was my g.g.Grandfather and on the census of 1881 he and his family were living at 2 Bank square, Builth, Brecon, Wales. Hello, I am trying to sort out some of the CARY - TAYLOR family information regarding: Anne CARY, born: abt. 1674, (daughter of Judith LOCKEY and Henry CARY, (son of Miles/Mylles CARY and Anne TAYLOR, (dau of (Capt.) Thomas TAYLOR,) ) for whom I show some information as having married Maurice LANGHORNE. Then after the death of Maurice LANGHORNE in abt. 1693 married Mrs. Anne CARY LANGHORNE married Benjamin HARRISON, III, and other information that I have seen indicates that in her father's will Anne CARY is mentioned as Anne STUCKEY and thought to have married Charles STUCKEY. If, indeed, this is correct information, did Anne CARY marry Charles STUCKEY before or after her marriage to Benjamin HARRISON, III. The HARRISON family connects to my EARLE, LIGHTFOOT, LEE and other lines but I really don't know much about this marriage and any children they might have had. And I have very little information on the Charles STUCKEY and Anne CARY marriage except for a child named Edmond STUCKEY, I who married Katherine ? and their son, Edmond STUCKEY, II, who married wife # 1: Nancy Elizabeth HOWELL, (dau of Edmund HOWELL,) and wife # 2: Edith(a) HOWELL, (sister of Nancy and dau of Edmond HOWELL.) Maurice LANGHORNE .....born: 1670 .....died: 1698 .....mother: ?? .....father: John LANGHORNE md: Anne CARY ............born: at "The Forest" ............md: in abt. 1690 ............mother: Judith LOCKEY ............father: (Capt) Henry CARY ........md: husb. # 1: Maurice LANGHORNE ..................Children: ..................(1.) Also, interested the HOWELL family is greatly of interest. Thanks very much. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
It's been a while since I posted my Taylors, so here they are... We suspect that our first American Taylor was Benjamin Taylor, probably born about 1700, we believe he was born in Scotland. In the late 1720s he shows up in Cecil County, MD, near the town of North East (apparently, at the time, there was an area near what is now the Cecil County Community College, that was called Westminister, not to be confused with the much larger town with a similar name in Carroll County). According to what I could find at the Cecil County Historical Society Library in Elkton, Benjamin's youngest son was also named Benjamin. I believe this is the child of Benjamin's that was my direct ancestor. He was born in 1744. There was a Benjamin Taylor from Cecil County that fought in the American Revolution. According to the Maryland Muster Rolls, this was the only Benjamin Taylor that fought from Maryland in the American Revolution. Alexander Taylor, my great-great-great uncle, wrote a family history in 1912 that said that his great-grandfather, Benjamin Taylor, came to Westminster from Scotland and fought in the American Revolution in a Maryland Regiment. Although I can't prove these Benjamins all go together yet, it seems likely. Next in line was Benjamin's son, Edward Taylor. Edward was probably born in the late 1760s, early 1770s. Alexander didn't have much to say about him except that he married a Miss BROWN, whose father was a Loyalist during the American Revolution, though he was too big a coward to fight (those were Alexander's words). A trip to the Maryland Historical Society gives us an Edward Taylor marrying a Mary Ann BROWN in Baltimore in 1792. This is the only Edward Taylor marrying a BROWN from anywhere close to that time period (though their records are probably not complete). Finally we come Edward's son, Eleazer Taylor. According to several pension records, Eleazer was born in Cumberland, MD about 1795. This seems to match well with an Edward married in 1792. Eleazer fought in a Maryland Regiment in the War of 1812, I've copied what little information there is from the pay/muster cards for Eleazer at the National Archives. The next time we find Eleazer, he's in Huntingdon County, PA, living in Shirley Township. We found him on the tax records there in 1828. He stayed there until around 1840, when he began to move around Huntingdon and what would shortly become Blair County. He appears in the 1850 Census in Fulton County and in the 1860 Census near Williamsburg in Blair County. According to Alexander (who was Eleazer's son by his second wife, Nancy ROGERS), Eleazer is buried in Yellow Springs, PA, which is very close to Williamsburg. If you think you are connected to or know anything about these Taylors, please let me know. Thanks! Lee Taylor
I am passing this on as it is too usful to keep to myself. My Taylor Keith Smith Isham Davenport Randolph Russell Shirley families all intermarry many times. Thanks, Mary ------------------------------------ Hello, Barbara Rosel/Russell's family continued: Barbara married John Keith ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/blair/bios/wiley/wiley08.txt PROF. DAVID S. KEITH, a veteran from the ranks of Blair county teaches, who has served since 1874 as superintendent of the public schools of Altoona, is a son of John and Mary (Shiffler) Keith, being born March 26, 1847, at Woodbury, Bedford county, Pennsylvania. The Keiths are of Scotch extraction. Adam Keith, the great-grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born in England, from which he came to America at an early day, and settled in Pennsylvania. He was among the early settlers of Huntingdon county, where he lived until his death, at an advanced age. He married and reared a family of three children, one son and two daughters. John Keith (grandfather) was born in Hopewell township, that county. He was a farmer by occupation, and resided in Huntingdon county up to a short time prior to his death, when he removed to the State of Wisconsin, town of Lancaster, where he died about 1858, having attained man's allotted age of three-score and ten years. He was a whig in politics, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He married a Miss Russell, by whom he had a family of five children. Their son, John Keith (father) was also a native of Huntingdon county, but moved to Bedford county in 1840, and located in the neighborhood of Woodbury. There he resided until 1871, when he removed to Taylor township, Blair county, and died at his home in that township in 1874, in the sixty-third year of his age. He was a school teacher during the earliest part of his life, in which vocation he won considerable reputation, but in later years became a farmer. He was an active and influential member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and a republican in politics. He was elected and served as township auditor several terms. He married Mary Shiffler , a native of Blair county, and to them was born a family of six children. She was a devoted Christian woman, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and died in 1889, having nearly reached her sixty-sixth birthday. David S. Keith was reared principally at Woodbury, Bedford county, where he attended the common schools until his fifteenth year, when he entered Juniata academy at Martinsburg, this county, and later took courses of training in the Normal school at Millersville, finishing his education in the collegiate branches under the instruction of Prof. S. M. McGreery, of Indiana, this State. When only sixteen years of age, David S. Keith began his career as a teacher, having charge of a district school in Huntingdon county. He taught a number of terms in this and Huntingdon counties, being thus engaged until 1871, when he was offered a position as teacher of the grammar department of the public schools at Indiana, Pennsylvania. Accepting this position, he remained there until 1873, at which time he became principal of the High school at Altoona, and served some fourteen months in that capacity, until the resignation of Prof. John Miller, superintendent of the public schools of the city of Altoona, in 1874, when he elected to succeed Professor Miller, and resigned the principalship of the High school to accept the responsibilities of the larger trust. Since that year Mr. Keith has served continuously as superintendent of the public schools of Altoona, having been re-elected seven times in succession. This fact tells more eloquently than any words we could use, of the energy, ability, and fidelity with which Professor Keith has devoted himself to the up-building and improvement of the public schools of this city, and of the popularity he enjoys in recognition of these services. On the 13th of June, 1883, Professor Keith was married to Margaret Crawford, a daughter of Armstrong Crawford, of Tyrone, this county. To them have been born two children, both sons: Charles Russell and Ralph Crawford. In his political faith Professor Keith is a republican, and gives his party a steady support on all National and State issues, though never actively engaged in practical politics. He is inclined toward independence in local matters. He is a member of the First Presbyterian church of Altoona, and has served for some years as an elder in that church. He is also a member of Mountain Lodge, No. 281, Free and Accepted Masons, and of Cove Lodge, No. 368, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
