    3. I've sent two correctly addressed messages and it has not been successful. Due to a family situation, I do not feel I can remain subscribed to all the lists I normally have an interest in. I have been removed from all the lists except the Taylor list. Maybe there is a problem somewhere? 3. Thank you, Mary! I'm so new I haven't even had the chance to introduce myself! So I guess this is a good time. Hello List Members, I'm the new list admin - my name is Marilyn Gouge and I, too, am researching Taylors - from western PA. Will post particulars later on. I just finished browsing some of the messages and ran across your previous administrator's message from 29 March 2002. If you haven't read it, please do so. It is packed with all kinds of good info on posting. It's in the archives and you can get there by going to http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/t/taylor.html At the bottom of that first block describing the Taylor list, you will see "Search the Taylor Archives" and "Browse the Taylor Archives." If you browse, just go to March 2002, look for RE: [TAYLOR] Lively Bunch !! (and misc info added by JAH) by John A Hansen (Fri, 29 Mar 2002 08:56:39 -0800), open, and you will be able to read John's post. You can look for it in "Threaded" order or "Chronological" order - and it's easier if you check the box "with dates." Anyway, I told you about his message because I'm not going to post a lot of rules and suggestions here - they are all in John Hansen's message! The only thing I will emphasize again is - as long as there is no flaming, selling, or discussion of religion or politics on the list, we'll get along fine. That said, I will bid you all good night. 3. To Joan and everyone else on the list, There was a problem. Because of a recent upgrade, the TAYLOR list has been down - off and on. I've heard from other list admins that all the lists on this particular server were experiencing problems. Some people were receiving messages and others weren't. In fact, there are a few messages in the archives that haven't yet come through, even though they were sent before this one. So I may forward those again if they don't come through by tomorrow morning. If you've seen them, just delete. I'd rather you get two than none. Joan - are you clear about how to "unsub" now? You need to put the word request in the mailing address and just the word unsubscribe in the subject and/or body. If you're still having problems, please contact me directly. Thanks for everyone's patience! 3. Just poking fun my mother was Emma Taylor after marriage. Her name was befor marriage Emma Jane Walker born July 14 , 1895 Joplin , Jasper CO., MO. My father was Omer Wilson Taylor born June 9 1892 , Poke CO., MO. But I don't think we are related to your Taylor's. As Our Taylor came from VA., NC., TN., MO., Mother passed away in 1971 in Buena Park , Orange CO., California ,and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetary , Whitter , Los Angles , California. My father passed away Aug. 1966 in Hemet , Riverside , California and is laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetary also in Whitter , Los Angles , California. His father was James W. Taylor born in Flat-Creek twp., Stone CO., MO., and he passed away May 31 , 1942 in Mount Vernon, Lawrence CO., MO., he had 5 brother and 1 sister that were born there also. But in later years moved to Mount Vernon, Lawrence CO., MO. I thought if I wrote about my Taylor's it may help some other Taylor's searching for there Taylor's. 1. [TAYLOR] Are your files protected?
    2. Ann Blomquist
    3. Hello Listers, I have learned so much from the postings here. There have been comments made in the past about Genealogy.com, Ancestry.com, and Rootsweb.com. I am currently a subscribed member of Ancestry.com because I have found the census records there very useful. So, I posted my genealogy file of over 25 years of research and 32,000+ people at Ancestry.com. I have received so many nice questions, comments, and corrections. What a wonderful way to share! However, a horrible thing happened to me last week. I discovered that since files at Ancestry.com are not protected, a person downloaded my ENTIRE file of 32,000+ people with my own writings, merged it with her file, and reposted under her own name. She went from a file of 20,000 to 52,000 with a few clicks of her computer keys! Is that what genealogy is??? Even after I notified her that I objected, she claims that she is ethically entitled to my file since it was downloadable. Unfortunately, I did not know that if I had posted at Rootsweb.com, I could have prevented this wholesale download. I cannot express how violated I feel! 25 years of work taken by someone who doesn't even care about most of these families. I personally believe that she downloads entire files routinely and this is how she has obtained most of her file since she admitted that she doesn't get to libraries or courthouses. So, please be aware that depending upon where you post, someone can take ALL OF YOUR WORK and put their name on it. Ann Blomquist Orlando, FL

    1. [TAYLOR] List Admin Opportunity
    2. John A Hansen
    3. Dear All: Now's your chance!! For those who have been waiting for the opportunity to administer this list. I've decided to retire from public life and enjoy my grandchildren and do some traveling with my wife. Here are some guidelines for winning the List Admin title. A: Be Creative in your letter. Humor sells. B: Decision in one week ( next sat July 20 at 5pm PDT) C: Mention if you have any special qualities ( manage the message boards), won genealogy awards etc etc D: I will take a look at the archives to see what posting have been made. So if you've been a flamer then I would forget applying. If you've posted several hundred messages on the surname then you're probably the winner. E: Attempts to bribe ( chocolate, lattes, pies etc) are turned over to Piglet for decision on what the related punishment will be. F: Private Email only. Do not post to the list. Posting to the list will be an automatically disqualifier. Best Regards John A Hansen List Admin pro tem jahansen@qwest.net

    3. Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if any of you may have run across my great grandma, Emma B. Taylor, in your research. She is a brick wall for us, since it seems she didn't talk much about her family to anyone. She was born ca 1860 in what she called "Old Virginia" and died in 1944 in West Virginia. We can find no record of her birth, and her death certificate had a slash through the section for parents. She married Fred Riddle and they lived in the Hart's Creek area of West Virginia (Lincoln and surrounding counties) and had several children. Their son, Albert Walter Riddle was my grandfather. They also had another son Marion Riddle who died in California in the mid 1970's, and a daughter Beryl, who married a Conley in WV. We didn't know Emma was our ggrandma until about 7 years ago (long story) and everyone we've talked with who grew up around her can't remember her mentioning her parents, siblings, etc. It was rumored she was either a Cline or a Taylor, and that her family had some ties with the Reynolds tobacco family. She may have had family in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, in the mid-1920's, since she and my grandmother and grandfather lived somewhere up there on a farm for a short while before my mother was born. If anyone has run across an Emma Taylor who may match up with the dates I've listed above, I will be forever grateful if you could let me know. Thanks much in advance. Ruth Webb

    2. I read the message posted by Kathleen Pardue on July 24, 2000 stating that she has a copy o Agnes Porter Taylor's will. Her daughter Isabelle Jane Taylor was marrieds to Hugh Alexander Montgomery. Hugh was my great uncle, twin brother of Robert Josiah Montgomery Steele who was my grandfather. My father, Goodman Franklin Taylotr, was a cousin of John Harvey and William Alexander Steele, sons of Hugh. this means that Isabella Jane Taylor was my father's aunt. I would like very much to have a copy of Agnes Porter,Taylor's will if it is still available. Please email me at SJMoore@aol.com. Thanks. PS That's Hugh Alexander Montgomery Steele.

    2. Clancy
    3. Ellis Taylor was born in Carbonear, Newfoundland on 14 April, 1906. He was the son of Arthur and Sarah (Sally) Taylor. As a young man he emigrated to the US, most likely New York. He was my maternal grandmother's brother (her name was Nina Marguerite Taylor b. 4 Dec 1900 in Carbonear). Does anyone have any information about him - who he married, any children? I would be very grateful for any information at all. With thanks, Barbara Parsons Clancy
