Hello All, For my research, I need data regarding"Wandering" John Taylor from Cherokee County, Texas. He was given the name "Wandering" by W. W. Woods in an article in the Southwest Historical Society Quarterly. Seems he spent his life practicing law in various counties. My interest is his travels in Leon County, Texas where he was reported, in Mr. Wood's article, to have a son living in the specific area where my mother was born. My grandfather was Henry Hiram Taylor. The time frame would be between 1860 and 1900. Thanks Joe Ellison---Bryan, Texas---pashassalt@aol.com
To all the requests for look-ups for Kent Co. De. and Va. I have not found any thing that matches your names. I only had pages for Taylor anmes, but I did copy all your requests, and will keep checking when I go to library. It will not be any time soon, as due to a medical problem, I am house bound. I'm sorry I wish I could have helped. Mary

It is an unusual name (thank goodness - sure makes it easier). Her first name was correctly spelled Neoma. Her mothers name was Bettie or Francis T or F Taylor and they were around Winnsboro, Wood Co, Texas in 1900 and 1920. Oma's parents were both born in Alabama. Her oldest sister was born in TX in the 1800's, so they were all in TX by then. Oma's siblings were: Lilly Turner b.circa 1888 in TX Jane Black Violet Stovall Robert Taylor b. circa 1895 in TX Raymond Taylor b. circa 1900 in TX Jesse Taylor --- Shirley Carter <cartersa@pacbell.net> wrote: > I don't think we are related but saw the name Naoma, > and couldn't pass this up. Hi List, I have Taylor ancestors that lived in South Bristol, Ontario County, NY and moved to the town of Italy, Yates Co., NY by 1852. There was David H., born 1790 in Columbia Co., NY, his wife Dyanthy, born 1789 in Connecticut. They had a son, Daniel born May 14, 1825 (possibly Yates Co., NY). Daniel's wife was Lydia, born about 1828 in PA. Do not know if David and Dyanthy had other children, but I'm sure they did. Does anyone have any links to this family? Bob Phillips
Searching for the lines of Thomas Taylor b.1718 in Va. He later was m. to Penelope GOODWYN daughter of Thomas Goodwyn and Mary Harrison. My line of Taylor is thru their son Thomas b.1750 and was m. to Priscilla Alice CROMPTON also in Va. Thanks...kim
Pardon the intrusion, but I'm using all the means at my disposal to locate a lost childhood friend. His name is Ron Taylor, parents Oscar and La Veda. Ron would be around 54 years old. We were inseparable as kids, then the Army moved us away. We lived in Dallas on W. Illinois and attended Margaret Henderson Elementary, in the Oak Cliff area. After Ron's family moved from W. Illinois, they moved further out into the suburbs and lived on Cassia. Ron used to play the accordion and was the adopted son of Oscar and La Veda. If anyone has any information about Ron or his family, please contact me at dennis.robinson@usa.net Sorry for the intrusion Dennis Robinson
Martha and Mary, It was a different Mary who volunteered to do lookups. I'm sure she will see your message, Martha, but if not, her address is listed. I beg to differ..................LOL
I don't know if Laurens had their two large cotton Mills in 1850, but I know they used mechanics to work on the looms (loom fixers). One of the mills was called Watts Mill and the other was Laurens Mill. My Taylor relatives worked at Laurens Mill in the early 1900s..Their were mill villages around both mills that are still there. but closed.
Dick, I had to go out and tell my husband that one. He said that's abt right. >G< Carleen
Of course, it is much easier to be a mechanic nowadays. You only have to know two things: 1. Duct tape, and 2. WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't you use the duct tape. If it should move and doesn't you use the WD-40 Dick Dickinson bandddickinson@voyager.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <CCarnivale@aol.com> To: <TAYLOR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 9:07 PM Subject: Re: [TAYLOR] MECHANIC IN 1850 > me·chan·ic (m-knk) > n. > A worker skilled in making, using, or repairing machines, vehicles, and tools. > > > ==== TAYLOR Mailing List ==== > Please remember to 'snip' as much of the Original Message as possible > when replying to a List Posting. Yes, I would like a look up for Israel Taylor, Mary Taylor, and Joseph Taylor. They are the children of Christopher Taylor (1620-1686) and his wife Frances ( -1685) Christopher was a Quaker Minister who lived in Bucks County, PA and later on Tinicum Island, PA. It may be a long shot but in those days there was a lot of mobility between Tinicum Island and Kent County, Delaware. Hope you find them. There is a connection Diehl - Elliott - Taylor which has eluded me. Thanks for your assistance. George Diehl
me·chan·ic (m-knk) n. A worker skilled in making, using, or repairing machines, vehicles, and tools.
A mechanic worked on anything that had moving parts, usually machines of whatever kind they had a given time. It could be anything used in daily life. Carleen
MY GR2-GRANDFATHER, SAMUEL TAYLOR, IS LISTED AS A MECHANIC ON THE 1850 CENSUS OF LAURENS COUNTY, SC. THAT IS 200 MILES FROM THE COAST AND HAS NO NAVIGABLE RIVER. SO STEAMBOATS ARE NOT A CONSIDERATION. WE HAD TRAINS BUT ONLY A DEPOT. THERE WERE WATER-POWERED GRIST MILLS. WHAT DID A MECHANIC WORK ON IN 1850? JAMES R. TAYLOR
