Dear TAYLOR Researcher: My friend's ex-husband is dead. Her "ex-" was a TAYLOR. Her son thinks he is part Native American, or wants to "prove" that he is. Does anyone have any advice to help me, help my friend? She has never done much of this genealogy stuff; and will surely need all the help I can give her. Advice? Suggestions? I don't think she has lots of money to put into this project. I can help with time, but not money. And I don't have membership for sites like, Ancestry.com . Any people with the name FINES among your TAYLORs? FINES among any TAYLORs, for that matter? My dau.-in-law has a Fines Washington TAYLOR ancestor who was born, married & died in Oregon, son of William TAYLOR. This TAYLOR family went West on the Oregon Trail. The people who circulated that myth may really not have known what happened to old George. I have a couple of Georges (not Taylors, another line), and not in my direct line, who flew the coop and married again without the benefit of divorce. Nobody knew what happened to these scoundrels at the time. We found out about them much later when some of their descendants contacted us, and they didn't know the whole story either. No wonder myths get started. Linda, Have you actually traced all your lines all the way "across the pond"? If so, you are surely to be congratulated. Many if not most of us have not gotten nearly so far. I'm one who is pretty sure that "myths" of Native American ancestry in some of my lines contain are pretty certainly true. In many ways, they are harder to prove than tracing a line back to England or Germany. It is amazing how many family stories are simply wrong. Perhaps there is some truth in the stories we have been told, but, it is difficult trying to find it. Lyle
Ginger, Other than Baltimore, no I do not know where they might have been in MD. This is my husband's line but I do the research. For years, I heard how poor Josephine Norris married William Taylor and he gave her TB and she died. He was supposed to have come from Ireland. Imagine my surprise when I found out that he was born and raised in Maryland and he contacted TB from service in the Union Army. Another family idea hits the dust! When I found William's parents, John and Mary, I thought it was getting done but I have hit a brick wall. There are to many John Taylors to tell which is which and the census said he was also born in MD so I don't know where they got Ireland from. Thanks, Rachel
No, I do not think we do. We talked several years ago and at that time we did not know much about either. Shirley, I do not think we have the same George W Taylor. Doris
I have a George Washington Taylor born in Hamilton Co., Ohio, about 1810, the brother of Isaac, Israel and Samuel, sons of Cornelius and Mary [Fail] Taylor. George and all his brothers, except Israel, settled in Arkansas about 1850 or before. Israel married and stayed around Vincennes, IN where he apparently died before 1850. He had at least a son, Isaac, and a daughter who married a Curry. To my knowledge, George had no children of his own but may have adopted his wife's daughters. On the other hand, Isaac had a number of children , who had descendants in Arkansas. One of his grandsons was named Cornelius. yes, how nice to be so close. Finally got a chance to look stuff up and first must ap;ologize as my stuff is 100 years older, so this might not be a match, but let's hope. I have 2 brothers, John & Thomas, born in 1953 & 54. Their father John (1) dies and their mother, Elizabeth, is quite a gal and eventually ends up in Baltimore where her 4th husband dies in 1704. Son John dies in 1676 without marrying. Son (2) Thomas marries an Anne, lives on a place in Charles County and has two sons he also names John (3) and Thomas (3). Thomas (3) marries Barbara, buys a place on Maryland Point in 1720. I have no records of him after that, due mostly to not looking yet. John (3) marries Eunice and buys a place (90 acres) in Prince George County and calls it "Little Grove". Proceeds to have 5 children including a John (4), Thomas (4), James (4), Mary (4) and Ann (4). John & James inherit the farm and keep farming which may become your ancestors. Thomas (4) crossed the Potomac River in 1776 and buys 50 acres near Ft. Belvoir who is my ancestor. He has 13 children of which there is a John (5), Thomas (5), Richard (5), Benjamin Bassick (5), Milord (5) any of which could have returned to Maryland. We need to work on the possibility that your 1820 family are descended from one of these. Do you have locations for your people? This is fun. Ginger
