Bob, Found in Vital Records of Augusta, Me.: Jan 27, 1863 Marriage Intention of Nathan W. Taylor,( son of Sidney), and Emma C. Turner. There are many Taylor's in these Augusta, vitals. This Nathan and Emma would have been about the right age and marriage date for possible parents of your Howard Taylor. I don't know how close Augusta and York are. Might be worth looking into. Bob, In a search of the NEHGS website, NewEnlandAncestors.org, the only record I could find were the following entries from the Index to Maine marriages: 11/14/1911 Howard Taylor married Frances G. Avery at York, Me. both were residents of York at the time of marriage. 08/01/1929 Howard Taylor married Myrtle Seely at Westbrook, both residents of Westbrook. And another record with same date of 08/01/1929 Howard Taylor married Myrtle Chesley. Maybe a second marriage for both and the two last names for Myrtle are her maiden and married names? I'll let you know if I come up with anything else. Barbara would be happy to look up anything for you. But they are scanning in all documents as of last year - June so everything submitted from there on out would be scanned in and electronic. They will start on the back records and scan them in. It is costing a fortune to store all the applications and documentation. Thanks, Brenda! I am a "retired" DAR. The chapter I belonged to grew smaller and smaller, (in fact, I'm not sure if it is still there). Anyway, I went "at large", and then finally dropped out. I was so disappointed when they stopped issuing the yearly magazine, (which I really enjoyed), that I gave up. Hated to do it, but the dues at $40.00 a year on my limited retirement was not really providing me with anything, and budget-wise I could not justify the expenditure. Thanks again! Sylviabobtaylor, I just thought it was someone's signature line, albeit rather long. Now it's in the archives twice since you left it in your reply~ Only the poster can ask to have an email removed from the archives unless it is spam. If you would like to let Rootsweb know how you feel about this, here is the website for the help desk - http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/form1.html I'm sorry, but that is all I can offer you. Rootsweb and administrators encourage the use of short signature lines (to avoid incorrect hits on searches), but I do not know of any case where an email was removed because of a signature line - unless that line led to an inappropriate website (it might have happened - I just don't know about it). Don: I don't know if you are searching for Union or Confederate soldiers, but most large libraries have a 17 volume The Roster of Confederate Soldiers - 1861-1865, which lists name, unit and state in which enlisted.
