Childers 71 Everett 19 grandson Elmer 06 grandson Jackson Times - March 1933 On Tuesday, March 21, 1933, Johnnie B. Childers of Flat, KY, one of Wolfe County's most highly esteemed citizens, passed away from earth to mansions not made with hands eternal in the heavens. Uncle John as he was familiarly called, was born Aril 4, 1948, making his stay on earth 84 years, 11 months and 17 days. He was united in marriage to Nancy Taulbee, Aug. 30, 1866. To this union was born 14 children, 4 girls and 10 boys. Those surviving him are, (1) Mrs. George Whisman of Ida May, Lee County, Kentucky; (2) Mrs. Wm. Chambers of Baptist; (3) Mrs. Robert Moore of Mary, (4) Mrs. Hiram Whisman of Flat; (5) Henry Childers of Texas; (6) J. Howard Childers of Taulbee; (7)John Childers of Middletown, Ohio; (8) Harlan Childers of Cincinnati, Ohio; (9) Walter Childers of Fincastle and (10) Plummer Childers of Okalahoma. Two brothers survive; Sam and James Childers of Ashland, KY. (Edward d. 1916 and Richard Deward d. 1929) (Could Archibald and Dorsey be the missing sons?) His beloved companion died 13 year ago. Besides his children there were 106 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren, most of whom survive him. Uncle John and his good wife joined the M.E. Church in 1890 and lived consistent Christians to the end. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Joe Hieronymus, pastor of the M.C. Church of Flat, assisted by Bros. Buck Creech, Dave Tolson and Wm. Chambers. His remains were laid to rest in the Childers cemetery by the side of his wife to await the glorious resurrection, when the Lord returns to claim his own, that has been redeemed by His own power. Despite the inclement weather there was a large assembly gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to their venerable friend. (I think I've found all the living children up to 1930 except William Henry in Texas. I have him married to 1) Gertrude Stone and for some reason I thought he married a Sada Arnold. And had two children, Sada b. 1896 and Vivian b. 1909) He had two children, Bettie/Rettie/ and J. Everett Childers (Everett was killed by lightning) by Gertrude Stone. What happened to second wife if there was one? Did he leave for Texas after what ever happened to wife??? Carole
