I look white - but who knows what blood lines are in your background until you look. I have found that there are American Indian and Black on my father's side several generations back. I have been thinking that maybe one reason I may not be able to find any solid information on Julia Florance Tate is maybe she is a product of an owner/slave relationship??? The picture of her and her brother - they look white - but the brother has a beard that looks very curly - kinky ??? Her hair is pulled back - they are dressed very fancy. I don't know what I am looking for as far as 'race' background. I really don't care - it will not change me - The John William Roberts that Julia Florance Tate married was of Welsh descent and he had blue eyes and reddish brown hair from what I can find out. I have traced several generations back except for two women on my mother's side - Julia Florance Tate and Mary Ann Salladee - both were born around the same time - 1820 and 1823 - I can't find any birth records for either of them anyplace. All I have to go on are obit and family history - but as everyone knows - they could have made up their past in order to cover up an illegitimate birth or ???? Anyone have any suggestions??

I totally agree with what you said, on "who cares". Have you checked any of the Melungeon sites.
