Possibly this ties up with my Aaron TATE (1788-1862) line; he had a daughter Eliza Louise TATE, b. ca. 1830, and lived the last part of his life in DeKalb Co., AL, where he's also buried. His other daughters are Mary, Susanna, Sarah A., and Elizabeth F. Before coming to Alabama, he'd been in the Grassy Cove community of (then) Warren Co. TN. I'm not certain at this time whether Aaron had any brothers who came to Alabama with him and might have had a daughter named Louisa K., but it isn't outside possibility at all. Does anyone have Tates in their family who would have been in the area of NE Alabama, NW Georgia or SE Tennessee in the 1830's to 1850. My Great Grandmother was Louisa K. Tate. Family information has her born in Tennessee 8/22/1829 and married to William Smith Jones 1/24/1847. She was from the South Pittsburg area of Marion Co. Tennessee at the time of their marriage. They moved to Dade Co Georgia prior to 1850, where they lived the rest of their lives. Family tradition has it that her mother may have been a full-bloodied Indian. She had at least one sister, possibly named Rachel who traveled with she and my Great Grandfather to Nashville in late 1864 where my Grandfather was born in December 1864. Ron Jones

Hello Fellow Price Researchers, It has been a while since I have posted a request on my ggggrandfather, John Arlington Price. Maybe someone will recognize him. Listed on the Agricultural Census of Jackson County, AL in 1830, 1850. Land Patents were issued in 1831 and 1833. (On one of the same dates, a land patent was issued on nearby land to a Robert H. Price - this may be purely coincidental.) On the 1850 Census, John A. was age 32, his place of birth was listed as NC. He was listed with wife, Elizabeth age 21. He died May 21, 1866 intestate. Elizabeth was heir. In probate proceedings daughers Eliza, wife of William Magby, AL; Sarah, wife of Jahiel D. Tate of MO; and Nancy Adaline, wife of William Russell of Jackson County, AL were named. Also, Toney, Jane and Elizabeth, who were infants, were said to be residing in Franklin County, TN. Does this tie in with anyone's information on their Price lines? Thanks and best regards, Ricki Wilkins
Looking for a John Tate who was married to an Emaline ---------, and was living in Union Co., in 1900. He was living in the Caseyville precinct. He was a coal miner and died ~ 1902. If anyone has info would like to hear from you.
I thought some subscribers could find this website interesting for Tate cemeteries in Russell County, VA. In particular, descendents of Col. John Tate and Robert Tate may be interested. It's a great site. When I was first there a couple of years ago, you could keep blowing up maps bigger and bigger. There are a number of cemeteries in Russell County with these old Tates buried in them. Some are in better shape than other ones (unfortunately, I can't even read many of the headstones in the one which may have Robert Tate, my gggggg grandfather in it - it's above the family farm on the side Clinch Mountain. The cemetery is fenced, but all grown in, and it looks like kids drink there. The old log cabin (it would be Robert's I think) is below some siding. The family no longer owns the farm. It worries me that the cabin could get ripped down. Boy, I wish I had it. The other thing I'd love to do is go poking around for remnants of Tate's Fort (a job for a historical archeologist, though). I think it was probably located on Mocassin Ridge where Col. John Tate may have had his home - he's buried on Mocassin Ridge. All this is along Route 613, a little west of Abingdon, VA. http://www-nmd.usgs.gov:8888/gnis/owa/GetDetail?tab=N&ID=1475487 Dave

I found this obit in some I am indexing for Early Settlers of Santa Clara Co., Ca. It did not qualify for the project, but I thought someone might be interested. Tate, Ira W.--In Cupertino, Ca, July 4, 1987 Mr. Ira W. Tate, beloved son of Rosa Tate of San Jose. Loving brother of Albert C. Tate of San Jose, Mildred L. Woods of Brentwood, Ca, Jesse W. Tate of San Jose, Helen L. Ban Kirk of Chowchilla, Ca and Frank S. Tate of San Jose. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Dell, Arkansas. Age 66 years. Funeral Services Tuesday July 7 1987 at 2:30 p.m. from Oak Hill Funeral Home's Chapel of the Oaks, 300 Curtner Ave. Interment, Oak Hill Memorial Park.
I am looking for information on Sarah TATE. According to her son's entry in the 1880 census, she was born in Kentucky. An aunt says she was the daughter of Dr. James TATE, and that in 1823 or 1824 she married Benjamin UNDERWOOD. Benjamin and Sarah had a son named George Washington UNDERWOOD in 1827. In 1850, Benjamin and George are listed together in the Jennings County, IN census, but Sarah is not. This isn't much to go on, but I'd love to hear from anyone who might have further information! Thanks! Marti asksuddarth@juno.com

Recieved this on another list. Thought it might be of interest to anyone who has travel plans. To one and all; As many of you know Fort Worth was hit by a tornado this past tuesday. The Fort Worth Public Library did sustain damage. At this time the library is closed both to the public and staff. All the glass in the building was blown out; the air conditioning system was destroyed and there is water damage. The rare books section of the Genealogy/Local History/City Archives has had water damage. We have not been able to get back into the library to see if there is structural damage. Please advise one and all that if you are planning a research trip to the Fort Worth Public Library to phone before you come. We are hoping that the staff will be able to get into the building on monday. I will keep this listserv updated on the conditions of the library and collection. If anyone has any questions please have them email me at the address listed here. Sincerely, Shirley Apley, Senior Librarian Genealogy/Local History/City Archives Fort Worth Public Library 500 West 3rd Street Fort Worth, TX 76112
