    3. I would like to work with you on this one as I too have Tarrant's from Co Cork possibly near Castlemagner. Firstly I would disregard the Cork info for the time being and concentrate on re-thinking this whole thing thro.gh As with all Irish research the first thing we need to know is Patrick's religion. Do you have any idea as to where he came from in Co Cork ? What is your so.rce that says he was married and had children in Ireland ? What documentation do you. have about this family eg certificates, census info, naturalisation papers etc. Mrs Valerie B Garton Dip FHS and Assoc. Dip L & A H. Author: carolef2 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.tarrant/557/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It seems that the "Tarrant" messages on the boards are dated, so I am posting this query on a new thread. I am researching this individual who is my daughters' paternal great-great grandfather. I have remnants of information gathered from a few family members: (1) PATRICK TARRANT was born in Co. Cork, Ireland about 1850. He was a school teacher. He was involved in the ambush and shooting of British police and fled Ireland. He reportedly was smuggled out of Ireland on a "potato boat" with the help of his comrades. He deserted a wife and children whom he never saw again. He was said to arrive in Canada (which actually does not make sense if he was a fugitive from British law) where his teaching credentials were honored. He next went to West Virginia and then to Pittsburgh, PA. His teaching credentials were not accepted in the US and he became a railroad laborer. He married a much younger woman who died in childbirth. His son, (2) WILLIAM PATRICK TARRANT, my daughters' great grandfather was born 03 Jan 1894 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA and died in Apr 1965 in Clairton, Allegheny, PA. He married MARIE GORMAN about 1914. They had seven children - 3 sons and 4 daughters. He was employed as a foreman in a steel mill. His (3) son and (4) grandson, visited Ireland in 1999 to search for information about ancestors and relatives The search began in Liscarroll, Co. Cork on a farm road that turned into a dirt road, that turned into a tractor path which led to "Tarrant's Crossing" about a mile from the town of Freemount. They confirmed that there were several Tarrant families in the area during the late 19th century. They asked a postal worker about how Tarrants Crossing got its name and were told "It was named after your people." This seemed to validate the family story and generated speculation that the place may have been named for the ambush site. I have exchanged messages with a few Ancestry members about this mystery and so far have not made much progress which is why I am posting this information in the hope that someone here with a connection to the family may see it. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hope all is well - As many of you know Timoni and I got our DNA tested a few years back. In the test there was a little Jewish DNA - Unfortunately we only get the matrilineal DNA ----->From Timoni ---> me ---> Mom ---> Grandma ---> Greatgrandma etc... (Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas) So this doesn't even touch the Armstrongs (grandpa's side)- it just goes from mother to mother. The Armstrong side is were I actually have documentation of Cherokee and other native ancestors - But regardless, I found this interesting. Oh, and we're also just on Mom's side - 71.5% British/Irish, 9.9 French/German, 2.7 Ashkenazi Jew and it says 0.2 for other Native American and a few other things, but that doesn't mean there isn't more. This only goes back about 4 maybe 5 generations for me (Mom, Grandma Janey Brunette * Johnston*, Grandma Nora Belle *Sharp* and Greatgrandma Mary Catharine * Hensley* (who smoked a corn cob pipe), Sarah M. *Tarrant*, Rebecca Elizabeth *Langley*...) It is fascinating what they can find... OK, so the reason for my email. There is evidence throughout the US that the ancient Israelites came to the Americas during Solomon's reign. There are signs of the Hebrew presence in New England - hundreds of Semitic/Hebrew root words in the languages of Eastern Algonquin tribes. There are also signs of ancient mining of bronze up in the Great Lakes region. If you read the Bible Solomon brought in A LOT of bronze that was not available in the Middle East. The Cherokee Indians seems to have the most resemblance to the ancient Israelites with their dress (fringe), manner of worship and other customs almost identical to the Israelites. The Cherokee have their own Day of Atonement, very similar to Israel's. The Northern Cherokee Nation of Old Louisiana Territory recently shocked the world by claiming that their ancient oral legends tell of a Cherokee migration made to American from the area in Israel known as Masada. This surprising evidence is being offered to the public by Beverly Baker Northrup. The story is that the tribe Sicarii who escaped from Masada are the Cherokee ancestors who cross the water to the knew land. Note: Phonetic resemblance of Si'car'i and Cherokee or Tsa'ra-gi'. There is also a stone that was discovered in 1889 in Tennessee, the Bat Creek Stone that proves a transatlantic connection to the Jews. Recently I saw on TV another stone in Georgia, which is also similar to a stone in Mexico. Some similarities for both the Cherokee and Sicari tribes 1. Marriage customs: a widow could only marry with the permission of her brother in law 2. Day of Atonement - all insults forgiven and disputes buried. 3. The Totem significantly corresponds to the Ark of the Covenant (a chest carried on poles). In wartime the Israelites carried the ark and the Cherokee carried their totem. 4. New Moon: Linked to the Sabbath and was a biblical feast - with the Cherokee there is great importance. 5. The Cherokee - especially the Yuchis who migrated to OK Territory, show much evidence of contact with the Old World. 6. Language: The Cherokee are racially and linguistically different than their neighbors 7. Both Cherokee and Israelites - every year on the 15th day of the sacred month of Harvest, in the autumn, they make a pilgrimage. For 8 days they live in "booths" with roofs open to the sky covered with branches, leaves, foliage. During this festival both call on the name of God. (Leviticus 23) Dr. Cyrus Gordon of Brandeis Univ in Boston sat in on a harvest festival of the Yuchi Indians and listened to their chants, songs and sacred ceremony. As a professor who is an expert in Hebrew, Minoan and Middle Eastern languages he was stunned. During the ceremony he exclaimed they are speaking the Hebrew names for God!
