    1. [TANNER-ENGLAND] Edwin Tanner 1808 Gloucestershire to 1855 St Louis, Missouri
    2. Doug Raymond
    3. Edwin was my gg-grandfather, arrived Philadelphia 1826 with parents and siblings. I have tracked them and descendants, mostly down to present in USA. They are all on my public Raymond-Tanner Family tree at Ancestry.com But I am eager to find more of their roots in Gloucestershire. Edwin and his father William Tanner were "joiners", i.e. carpenter/builders. Douglas Tanner Raymond

    3. Wonderful news. I have migrated several groups, including Rootsweb, to Groups.io and all are greatly pleased with the easy transition and result. Please let me know if I can help. I have just joined your Tanner-Eng@groups.io , as can anyone else, via the Join button at https://groups.io/g/Tanner-ENG A link can be put on the new home page, to the Tanner-England@rootsweb Message Archive, which supposedly will be preserved indefinitely. https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/tanner-england.rootsweb.com/2020/1/ Douglas Tanner Raymond -----Original Message----- From: Jim Jackson <ancestrynut@charter.net> Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2020 2:32 PM To: tanner-england@rootsweb.com Subject: [TANNER-ENGLAND] Re: Notice about Rootsweb Lists This group is in line to be migrated to groups.io. 2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message to the list address with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

She spent some years at Fordingbridge, Hampshire Married in 1918 to Alfred MARSDEN at Knowle, Bristol. Alfred MARSDEN was with the Australian army. When he returned to Australia at the end of his service, Ivy also moved to Australia where they raised a family until they divorced Also I would like some information about her parents. Father, Jesse TANNER and mother, Clara ELKINS. They were married about 1875 Ivy TANNER was not living with her family at the time of the 1911 census Does anyone know why. Also did she have any older brothers or sisters? Thank you Kathleen **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less. 2. I am not a direct descendant of the TANNER family. I just have one to whom I am distantly connected. I am trying to trace the life of Ivy Kathleen TANNER who married an Australian soldier during the First World War. I have viewed the military records of Alfred MARSDEN which contain an extract of the marriage certificate. Alfred married Ivy at the Parish church at Knowle, Bristol on the 9/2/1918. His address at the time was Brightlingsea, Colchester. Alfred was 20 years old and Ivy was 22 years old. In November 1918 a daughter Joyce was born at Knowle. Soon after the marriage Alfred was transferred to France where he stayed until being returned home and discharged on the 2/11/1919. In February 1920 they had a son at Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. Alfred and Ivy had two more sons before divorcing. Alfred married my grandmother in 1941 and became my father's stepfather. Can anyone give me any information about Ivy and her family? I would also like to know about Ivy and Alfred's lives during the war. Thanks Kathleen **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less. (http://food.aol.com/frugal-feasts?ncid=emlcntusfood00000001)

    2. Many thanks Eve for your personal welcome to the list. I'll be brief as I can with this. Recently was given link back from my 'brick wall' of George MORTIMER b.1708 Gomersall, Yks, to the above Thomas in the form of a GEDCOM file. Unless, and until, I can verify any of this new information the GEDCOM will just sit on my computer and not be merged into my own Tree. I am working back from the 1708 end but would like to discuss the 1515 MORTIMER/TANNER connection and perhaps get some help as I feel sure the details I've been given relating to this man are incorrect. Here is what I have: Thomas TANNER or MORTIMER (Mortimer alias Tanner) b.ca.1515 Witheridge, Devon Married:- Johanna BEST 1545 Witheridge Died 1574 Witheridge. (I'm sure this is the wrong spouse. There is a Halifax marriage in Feb.1545 between Thomas MORTIMER and Johanna BEST which I think might have been picked up in error) I have them with 8 children, the first 5 born Devon but the last 3 born Yorkshire. 2. Hello Faith Welcome to the Tanner-England Mailing List. Please write and tell us who you are looking for in the Tanner family, maybe one or more of us can help you. Name of ancestor, date of birth, place of birth, parents or spouse will help. Looking forward to hearing from you. List mom my Tanner ancestors: John Tanner b 1755 Bickley Sussex [as far as I know he was born in Sussex] he came to Cornwall and married Susanna Mitchell 1780 in Falmouth where she was from. I have found 8 children that were born to them all in Falmouth. I believe Susanna died in 1799. Charlotte Tanner was born 9 Jan 1799 so it may have been in childbirth she died, or at least that year. I cannot find when or if Charlotte married, if anyone knows any more about her please let us know. I dont see any marriage for John in Cornwall there are some John Tanner's married in Devon but I dont know where he went, maybe back to Sussex so relations could help with the children. Id love to know what happened to him and the children if anyone knows this also it would be wonderful. That is as far back I go. **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. 3. Hi Eve, Now that we are in contact I'm interested in finding out a bit more about your side of the Tanner family. I know from the postings over the last few years that you are either the grand-daughter or great grand-daughter of Ernest James Tanner. Perhaps you can enlighten me about what happened to Ernest's family. I know Ernest was the youngest son of Joseph Jose Tanner and Amelia Snow and was born around 1848 in Torquay. From the census records I already know Ernest married someone called Charlotte - but I'm not sure if they had four or five children: I've got Bessie, Nellie, Lottie, Loveday, and on the 1901 census a Queenie is mentioned (but the date of birth suggests to me that Queenie = Loveday - is this correct?). I would love to know what happened to these children. (I could find no mention of Bessie after 1881 and Nellie after 1891 census). Also I'd love to know how you fit in to the picture. When I read through the earlier postings I seem to recall that you are an American. Did one or more of Ernest's children emigrate from England? I myself am English and I was born in Devon - hence I already knew quite a bit about the Torquay Tanners. For the last fifteen years I have lived in Cornwall, only about 20 miles from Penryn and Falmouth!!! - and so I have been able to find out quite a lot about our joint ancestor, Joseph Jose Tanner and his family, from the St Gluvias/Penryn church records relating to Baptisms, Marriages and Burials. I have copies of the various entries which relate to Joseph, his birth, his father's marriage, his father's birth and lots of information on John Tanner his grandfather, who moved to Falmouth from East Sussex (from the Falmouth Parish Records and from the East Sussex Records Office). I will be glad to share some of my findings with you if you are interested. Have you been able to discover what happened to any of your Ernest's siblings? I have not been able to find any mention of William John Tanner, his wife and children, after the 1871 census, nothing about Richard Tanner after the 1861 census - but I have been able to discover from the St Gluvias Parish Records that Eliza/Elizabeth Tanner, Joseph's only daughter by Amelia Snow, actually moved back to Penryn from Torquay, but I'm not sure of the exact date. I know she married a Cornishman in St Gluvias church in 1861, a John James, and went on to have at least six children - but I don't know what happened after 1881: the whole family just disappeared from the Cornish census records at that point (I've yet to see if they moved back to Devon again; so far I haven't had time to resume my search). I do hope you can fill in some of the gaps for me, Judi ----- Original Message ----- From: <VIRFM@aol.com> To: <tanner-england@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 6:25 PM Subject: Re: [TANNER-ENGLAND] Tanners of Torquay and Penryn > Hi > > Thanks for the update that was confusing just shows you how things can get > messed up and trust me to do it!! > > Glad to have you with us! > > Eve > > > > **************The year's hottest artists on the red carpet at the Grammy > Awards. 3. I am trying to contact Eve Miller. Joseph Jose Tanner (b abt 1815 St Gluvias, Penryn, Cornwall) was my gt gt grandfather on my father's side of the family. Amelia Snow was his first wife; his second wife was Jane Kinch b abt 1832, Newton Abbot, Devon. I know that Joseph and Amelia had four children, and that Joseph had a further eight children with Jane between 1855 and 1870 (but that he didn't actually marry her until December 1869!). I have also been able to trace Joseph Jose Tanner's family. He was not the son of the John Tanner who married Jane Rawlings in St Gluvias parish church in 1800 - this John was actually his grandfather marrying for the second time! Joseph Tanner's father was John Smith Tanner b 1890 Falmouth, Cornwall, who in turn was the eldest son of John Tanner senior from his first marriage to Susanna Mitchell (Falmouth). This 'orginal' John Tanner was a soldier who came down to Cornwall from East Sussex. Hope this proves interesting. I am looking for anyone with Sussex Tanners in their family tree. Judi (new member)
