    3. Hello Janet, I have a Peter STREIFF from Glarus, but he was born in 1550 in Diesbach in the canton. You did not mentioned the birthdate of your Peter, but I guess it was in the 1800's? I also check for the surname FERN in my database, but did not have any entries. I'm not sure what you can do now, but to go back to the your records or sources and recheck the info to see if there was a copy mistake or a mix up? I am researching the JENNY's from Schwanden and have found many JENNY's with the same forename, same birthyear but they were cousins which makes it hard to separate the various lines. Jerry

    3. Jerry, I am actually looking for information on Peter STREIFF born 20 Feb 1831/2 married Freiderica Fern b. 1834. They were married 22 Mar 1854 and sailed to America soon afterward. All of this information is from family, most are dead now. We cannot locate any death certificates from either Peter or Freiderica or incidentally on a few other Streiff men and their wives in Dubuque County, Iowa. That didn't help much I've asked the Landesarchiv for information on Peter's brothers but they only found one out of the 4 he had. The one they found had a different first name from what I have, but the birth, marriage date and wife were the same. However, the parents names are not what I have been told they should be, and the Peter they have listed as a brother to this man is the one who went to New Glarus in Wisconsin. Right now I have a letter to the Passport office in Switzerland hoping they will have something on my Peter. I also am checking the passenger lists with the National Archives in the U.S. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to try next?? I'm getting frustrated, I have been digging for info on this man for years. I have found that some of the family sources haven't been over reliable, which I'm sure most of you have run into yourselves. I am beginning to wonder if this man was illegitimately born and that is why he is not showing anywhere or he may "borrowed" someone else's identity. Maybe I watch too many movies... Thank you for any help, Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, October 04, 2002 11:25 PM Subject: [SWITZ] STREIFF & FERN Hello Janet, I have a Peter STREIFF from Glarus, but he was born in 1550 in Diesbach in the canton.
