Vaduz is NOT in Switzerland - it's Liechtenstein - so there are two possibilities: Joseph Strub was either born in Liechtenstein near Vaduz or in Switzerland near Vaduz; the latter would point to the St.Gallen Rhine Valley at the border to Liechtenstein - where no Strub hold a citizenship. So most likely you'll be looking for a Liechtenstein family. Search for Strub on http://swiss.genealogy.net/search-m.htm and you'll find a few possibly useful pages, also on Liechtenstein, incl. a page on emigrateion from Liechtenstein, listing Strub as one surname - with an e-mail to request further info! > Arrived in USA in 1855 and settled in Allamakee County Iowa. > Any one else researching this name? > Also researching TRIERWEILER-SCHMITT - KLEES- KEIL-HORN.... > from the areas of > Ralingen, Germany, Welschbillig, Germany and Luxemborg. > KLOCKER from Dorn Birn Austria. This will be Dornbirn (one word) in Vorarlberg (Austria). > SPIEGEL exact origin unknown. > VITZTHUM from Bavaria, Germany A Bavarian origin is not to be excluded - but this is a typical Vorarlberg (Austria) name. I can only recommend to re-check your sources - and if these origins are just family tradition, to have a close look at a good atlas first. BTW - http://www.genealogy.net/ is covering all German speaking areas of Europe. Good luck with your research, and best regards - Wolf __________________ Wolf Seelentag, Ph.D. Reherstr. 19 CH - 9016 St.Gallen +41 (0) 71 - 288 51 21 [email protected] > Thank you > [email protected] > > ==== SWITZERLAND Mailing List ==== > Swiss Resource Site > http://swiss.genealogy.net
