This probably means > that the Duvanels didn't come from the Val de Ruz, but I can't > tell you where they DID come from. According to Familiennamenbuch der Schweiz http://swiss.genealogy.net/famnam-m.htm there is only a single citizenship prior to 1926: Brot-Dessous (which actually is in canton Neuchatel), where Duvanel have held citizenship since before 1800. Starting from http://www.eye.ch/swissgen/kibu/nekbinde.htm you'll find a link to http://www.nussle.org/sng/sng_commune_a.html which tells you that Brot-Dessous today is part of Noiraigue - so back at http://www.eye.ch/swissgen/kibu/nekb_a-z.htm#N you'll learn that for records before 1874 you have to check Travers - where the church records 1615-1875 have been filmed by LDS.
