    1. [SWITZ] Grauwiller in Basel (land or stadt?)
    2. Hi Listers, This is a marvelous list--I've learned so much from everyone. :o) One of our FHC staffers is starting his Swiss line and needs some help. He is looking for a Grauwiller family from Basel. He isn't sure if it is Basel-land or Basel-stadt. HIs Johann Grauwiller was born August 1831 and emigated to the US in about 1854. Any hints or ideas on who he can contact in that area? He is not "on-line" at home and really doesn't want to rely on the computer too much. (A thorough researcher but not converted to technology yet.) Sounds like he'll be doing most searches via FHC resources and by post. Any addresses of offices, or ideas about Grauwillers would be most appreciated. Many thanks. I think I speak for nearly everyone on the mail list in expressing my appreciation of him. Since I just returned from a visit to Switzerland in June, I'll likely opt for hiring a Swiss genealogist this time, especially since I can't read that confounding old-fashioned European script worth a darned. But it's gratifying to know I may be able to get back to 1641. My thanks again, Wolf. Jane in AZ > > Von: Jane T. [mailto:[email protected]] > > Gesendet: Sonntag, 25. I know that they had 6 children: Silvio (b. 1880); Alfred (abt. 1883); Bartol (b. 1887); Annuciata (b. 1885); Mary (b. 1891) and Amelai (b.??). Silvio is my grandfather, he married Natalina Jacop also from Vogorno. Any suggestions??? 1. AW: [SWITZ] Grauwiller in Basel (land or stadt?)
    2. Wolf Seelentag
    3. Grauwiler are (and have been since before 1800) citizens of Eptingen and Lausen, both Basel-Landschaft. In 1881 the first family member was granted Basel-Stadt citizenship. Check the links on http://swiss.genealogy.net/kibu/blkbinde.htm for addresses of civil registry offices. As he emigrated in 1854 (reminder - these offices were set up in 1876) they might not have data on him - so church records may have to be checked - check http://swiss.genealogy.net/kibu/blk_a-z.htm and/or http://swiss.genealogy.net/ldsloc-m.htm for the films available at FHCs.
