Hi John! Weggis is on the "Vierwaldstättersee" (or Lake of Luzern). Find the city of Luzern and then hop into the Lake and start sailing East/slightly veering south across the Lake you'll find Weggis, a little town. The song is an old Swiss folkssong and sings about taking a cruise on Vierwaldstättersee and reaching the various stopovers, like Weggis. "Vo Luzärn gägge Wäggis zua, yii-hollerodidiii, hollerollidiioo...." (from Luzern toward Weggis...... yodelling) "bruucht mer weder Strömpf no Schuäh, yiihollerodidii-yohooooh!" (you don't need stockings nor shoes... yodel....) .....[because you can go there by boat!] "Yuuuuudii-hollerodiioo, hollerodiiooo, hollerodiiooo! Yuuudi-hollerodiio, hollerodiidoo-yohoooo!" Well, thats only the first verse, but I bet Walter could show you where to find the whole song, maybe even acccompanied by sound! Sorry, my yodel interpretation is in Aargauer, and not Luzern dialect ! I do hope that all Swiss schoolchildren who still enjoy this unforgettable trip across on their "Heimattag" (a day to visit their homeland - a longstanding tradition for Swiss schools) still enjoy singing this fun ditty.... as they approach the landing steps of Weggis. I have an old Swiss made music box with the word "WEGGISERLIED" printed on the bottom. I assume this is the song it plays, but I am curious about the word. I have not been able to translate it from German. I wondered if it was the name of a place in Switzerland, but cannot find it on any map. Does anyone know what this word means? > > Thanks for your help. > > John > > > ==== SWITZERLAND Mailing List ==== > Going on vacation? Gone longer than 4 days?
