    2. The passport application is filed under the father's name in the passport office of Canton Bern. You will need to provide the father's full name, his hometown (just say near Worb), approx date of passport application (1848-18 52). You have the URL for the (FREE)Translation Group, so send your request to them to be put into German. Here it is again: ===== Translation Team http://www.genealogy.net/gene/misc/translation.html ===== Please make a special effort to remember to thank them. It is the only form of recompence they accept for their fine services. Write to the Passport Office at: ===== Passport Section Schweizer Bundesregierung Bundeshaus 3000 Bern (BE) Switzerland (Schweiz) ===== Do not ask for a copy of the Passport Register, ask instead for a copy of the contents of the Document Folder. This contains date, passport number, surname and first name, hometown, current place of residence, occupation, and a very detailed description of the primary traveller, as well as destination, purpose of travel, accompanying persons, duration of stay at destination, etc, etc. IMPORTANT NOTE: Tell them that the Document Folder you are interested in is located at Shelf Mark St. A.B.XIIIa 55, and the register is at Shelf Mark St. A. B. XIIIa 57. Giving them this information saves them time searching and will (hopefully) save you about thirty bucks in fees charged. What have I forgotten? I can't think of anything else to tell you that would be helpful in your search. Let me know which address lists you would like. Some times you just feel like putting the genealogy away because of the brick walls you encounter. Thank you for helping me get over the brick wall. As far as the migration to America and passports, yes, the family that I inquired about originally came here in that time period. I can't nail down just when they came here or left there. I have searched through; Germans to America, the Palentine Immigration books, a huge line of Immigration books like a set of encyclopedias, Rootsweb Immigrant Ship List, and a few other books. They have slipped by me. Johannes and Catherina Gottlieb Rosina Johannes - was the last born in Switzerland- Europe May 26, 1848 Gottfried- was born in Holmes County Ohio August 6, 1852. So between the second half of 1848, and the first half of 1852 they were on their migratory path. They could have been in the 1850 U.S. Census but what state? I didn't see them in Ohio. How would I be able to find their passport, do you think it may be in Worb, or Bern? Have a good day! John D. Ledrich
