    2. Terry & Janet
    3. I want to thank each of the people who helped me on this. All the information was appreciated and helpful. I'm still at a dead end, but it wasn't a total loss either. Again, Thank you, Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Rands To: [email protected] ; [email protected] Sent: Sunday, January 05, 2003 12:48 AM Subject: Re: [SWITZ] Endowments for the Dead You wrote: It says on page 261(left side) dated 23 Feb 1911, No 9367 Fridolin Streiff born 13 Jan 1813 of Schwanden Glarus Switz died 21 March 1893..then on page 261 (right side) it says 24 Jan 1903 date of Baptismal and Confirmed, Gottlieb Rothenbuhler is under Heir or Proxy, Relation is blank, Instance of: Jenny Rec, Ordained by J.A. Seishman I am really confused at the difference in the date at the top of the page and the death date along with the baptismal date and the death date. of course the name of the proxy is new to me and what does "Instance of: Jenny Rec" mean? I will appreciate all help on this one. This is a new twist on things for me. I thought it was hard having Catholic STREIFF's and Protestant STREIFF's and now I get to add Morman STREIFF's... So maybe this is why I am having trouble finding any information out on the family. Would anyone know how I would go about finding more of his family? I am really looking for Peter STREIFF...supposed son of Fridolin. I never found anything on www.familysearch.org. Thanks for everything. Janet ++++++++++++++++++ Janet, My interpretation of what you've written about the record that you found: Background: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes that all who have lived on this earth must have the opportunity to receive certain ordinances (including baptism and "confirmation" [laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost]) performed in the proper way and by proper authority. For those who have died, this can be done vicariously in an LDS Temple. The deceased will then have an opportunity to accept the ordinance while he/she is in the Spirit World (can be Paradise or Spirit Prison [Hell]) while awaiting the resurrection into a degree of glory (Heaven). You can read more on the LDS Church's offical site in its explanation of why it is so heavily involved in genealogy. Now my explanation: It appears that back in 1903, an LDS descendent or relative of the deceased Fridolin Streiff arranged for Fridolin Streiff's LDS ordinances to be done in the Logan LDS Temple. It appears that Gottlieb Rothenbuhler acted as proxy. He may have also done the research and may also be a descendent/relative of Fridolin Streiff. One of the persons officiating in the ordinances was J.A. Seishman. I have no idea what "Instance of: Jenny Rec" means. If you think it's important, you can contact the LDS church on it's genealogy site. I've asked questions and received timely answers on this site. It's my understanding that most people who use, and therefore benefit from the LDS genealogical records, are not LDS and are essentially getting a valuable service at zero to little cost to themselves. It seems that Fridolin Streiff was not LDS during this life. The LDS Temple ordinance records may have provided some new information for you. From a practical point of view you can continue your research in the appropriate Protestant or Catholic church records in Switzerland. Hope I've helped.
