Janet, (I didnt' know how to reach you "off list") Regarding Amanda's comment, let me clarify one point: We believe that a person continues to exist after death. Their spirit simply has left their body but they are still "them" with the right to choose. If proxy work is done on their behalf, they still have the right to choose whether or not to accept it. If they wish to have those blessings (like baptism or marriage for the eternities), they must choose it. If not, it is of no effect on them. We simply offer the opportunity. Same for the living, we offer folks the chance to learn about our beliefs to see if they wish to embrace them here on earth. Same principle of agency exists.--right to choose for yourself. You can find out more information about our temples and basic beliefs at www.mormon.org This is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's official site for basic information. Hope this helps you and any other listers that find temple work notations on films and other records. I show marriages with Legler, Vogel & Spaelti. My notes indicate the info came from Ancestral File section of familysearch.org To test my reference, today, I just did a name search for "Fridolin Streiff", "no dates", "Switzerland" as country - familysearch.org showed me 117 references, some in 1800s. I haven't continued developing my Streiff line, as I'm looking for "Leuzinger". Then you need to understand the religion. Being LDS, we believe that we "go through" the Temple, making sacred promises to Heavenly Father, and keeping the beliefs we do, second, we believe that not only do we make these promises for ourselves, but we can be proxy for those ancestors that have passed on. So the Endowment for the dead simply means that your relative is a Mormon, thats all :) If you have any other questions please feel free to email me [email protected] Amanda ------=_Part_460_1933473.1041793061418-- ______________________________ > --- End Attached Message---> --- Begin Attached Message---Ken & I would like to thank all of you for your suggestions on finding rooms for rent near Melchnau.
