    1. [SWITZ] Surnames I am researching

    3. Hello my fellow listers, Up until recently, I was doing all of my research on my father's mother's side of the family, but, for what I have found, that side of the family has been very thoroughly researched, so I have decided to move my search over to my grandfather's side of the family as only my uncle is researching that side and with his health problems, is no longer able to conduct his research. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to continue what he started and see if I can break down the barriers that he encountered. I am going to start by giving a list of the surnames in general that I am researching, and then will give as much detail as possible about the few specific individuals that I am currently working on. Any help that you are able to provide, whether directly or by directing me to proper places of contact, would be greatly appreciated. The surnames that I am researching are: Weber, Rudin, Durrenberger, Jenni, Graf, Gaensli, Schaub, Grieder, Balthasar, and Huerlimann. Although I am not researching him, I will start by providing the information have on my grandfather to show how I tie into Switzerland. His name was Fritz Weber, born in Gelterkinden, Baselland, Switzerland on 25 Aug 1906. Sometime before 1932, he migrated to Canada. His father was Wilhelm Weber, born in Bubendorf, Baselland, Switzerland on 25 May 1865. I do know that Wilhelm was married in Switzerland on 12 Aug 1884, but am unsure as to the exact place, and then migrated to Canada sometime after his marriage. Carrying on, we come to Wilhelm's father, Johann Jakob Weber, born 12 Mar 1839 in Bubendorf, Baselland, Switzerland. He lived out his life in Bubendorf, having been married 18 Jul 1863 and died 11 Jun 1894. This brings me to my first real roadblock in my research of this family. Johann's wife was Verena Durrenberger. I have her being born 05 Dec 1839 in Reigoldswil, Baselland, Switzerland and died in 1915 in Liestal, Baselland, Switzerland. I have no information as to her father and for her mother, I have being Anna Maria Durrenberger, born 29 Nov 1817 in Reigoldswil and no death information. What I am looking to find are records that I can use to document, verify, and further research this side of my family. Whether those documents be copies of original vital stats records in terms of birth, marriage, death, and burial certificates, or they be copies of the church registers on microfilm. So my main questions are as follows. First, I would like to know if anyone on this list is currently researching the families mentioned in this e-mail who wouldn't mind collaborating research efforts. Second would be addresses for vital stats offices in Switzerland that I could write to in an attempt to obtain copies of records for my research. Third would be anything and everything that you can think of that I might have left out that might be able to direct my research to the right areas. I would, of course, also be interested in learning how I would go about finding the names of the ships and the dates of departure and of arrival for those of this side of my family that came to North America. I wish to thank you all in advance for any and all advice and assistance that you are able to give. Best regards to all, Raymond D Weber
