    1. RE: Men of Bern book again
    2. Hello again, I forgot about Wolf W. Seelentag's Swiss GEN site and found the _Historical map of Switzerland (1536-1798)_ (http://www.eye.ch/swissgen/ch1798.gif) . So another question. On the map is shows Biel as a blue dot and it is "Zugewandte Ort". Is Biel an independent city in 1798? Is Nidau part of Biel in 1798? Andreas Dättwyler remarried in 1799 and had 4 more children born in Nidau. Last question. Why was Andreas in 1798? Thank you again, Alan Rossing, Monterey, California, USA

The map on http://www.geneal-forum.com/forum_d/showthread.php?id=552 shows a border between Nidau and Biel. According to http://www.nidau.ch/de/03_portrait/geschichte.shtml?navid=34 Nidau became part of Bern in 1388. According to http://www.dhs.ch/externe/protect/textes/d/D222-1-379.html Biel belonged to the Bishopric Basel (Eveche de Bale) - which was a "zugewandter Ort" - see http://swiss.genealogy.net/kant/bafb-d.htm for a detailed history of the Bishopric (unfortunately available in German only).
