So, can someone tell me a place > to find a map of Canton Bern in 1798? > Alan Rossing, Monterey, California, USA The villages will not have moved a lot since then ;-). On http://www.geneal-forum.com/forum_d/showthread.php?id=552 you'll find a link to a collection of historic maps. There is no large scale map of Bern around 1800 - but a Swiss map of 1794. The example included on the above web page shows Nidau in the bottom right corner. Sombeval is too small to be indicated on this map - but nearby Soncebas (Sonceboz) is. In case you want to download entire maps (which is possible) your internet connection should not be too slow: most maps are between 5 and 10 MB ! It is quite fast, however, to get just a "thumbnail" where you can click on the region of interest, and see a small part of the map immediately; it is also quite fast to shift the detail map left/right or up/down. Very nice maps and a very nice page indeed! Best regards - Wolf
