    3. Hello List, I have a surname of HOTTINGER as an English spelling. Would this be spelled HOTTENBARG (with the umlaut above the A?) Grasping at straws. Laura

Hottenbärg is not listed in Familiennamenbuch - you'd have to go for Hottenberg (citizens of Arch, canton Bern, only). Best regards - Wolf
