    3. Hi List, I need some help on selecting a Genealogy Software. The following are things I need to consider when choosing the software: Must be English speaking Very User-friendly Able to accept special characters, such as ä, ü, ö, á, etc. Use with Windows98 Easy to import a GEDCOM from Switzerland I am doing research in Switzerland where umlauts are used. At present, I have a very old version of Family Tree Maker (FTM). When I received a GEDCOM file from a researcher doing work for me in Switzerland, I downloaded it to the old FTM I now have. The words that had special characters did not copy property. As an example, the word Lützelflüh, copy to FTM as Ltzelflh. Now I could go into FTM and correct each one, but that would be time consuming and a waste of my time, as there are a lot of words with umlauts. Another concern I have, is, if I copy a surname Rothenbühler that I would get from Switzerland, and use the same name Rothenbuhler without the umlaut, will the software consider that as two different names, when it is really the same name? I need software that will look at this surname as the same surname... to ignore the umlauts, but copy the umlauts. The researcher in Switzerland that is researching for me uses Ahnenforscher2000. I was thinking about using ! that, but it is in German only and I can't speak German. I noticed that there are several Genealogy Software programs out there, such as The Master Genealogist, Ages, Brother's Keeper, Dynas-Tree, Heredis, just to name a few. Any comments, suggestions, help would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert Rothenbühler rrothenbuhler@austin.rr.com
