Dale, I'm head of a small family DNA project and have two results in the mix who have partial (minority) Swiss (Bern) ancestry many generations back. Question 1: What percent Swiss ancestry should a person have before they join a project such as you propose? Question 2: My project is with FamilyTreeDNA. Can we use existing results (y-Chromasome, 17 marker, I think) and ask FTDNA to supply results to your new group/study? Regards, Paul near Portland, Oregon
I have a photograph of a soldier from about 1870. Naturally, there is no identification on the reverse side. It was taken in a photo studio in Stuttgart, but several years ago someone said it looked like a Swiss uniform. If anyone in the list is knowledgeable about Swiss uniforms, I could send a scanned copy privately. Thank you, Susan Biedron
Hi Susan, try the Federal Military Library in Bern http://tinyurl.com/gz79z I'm sure they would recognise it if Swiss. Go to "employees" and select "Schaerer Stefan".
